Service time

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, looking for some advice. I'm trying to find out what my car needs in relation to servicing. Is there an online portal for your service history anywhere or is it just the paperwork in the glove box? When I purchased the car from a main dealer they told me the service book is no longer and it's all loose leaf papers?

Also any reviews of wings of Peterborough? Not sure I'll go back to vindis Cambridge as they totally f'd me about.

£119 for an oil filter and oil change seems steep, is it an easy job to do yourself? Any online copies of the Haynes manual available?

Anyone know of a voucher code for Skoda servicing? See photo.

Sorry for the awful thread..

Ok then

It is not just Oil & Filter for £119 if they do the inspections and report they should do.

DIY if you like and you do your own checks of tyres, wiper blades, suspension, steering etc.

Hi, what it needs in terms of servicing is “how long is a piece of string ?”

The Skoda service schedule is open to various interpretations by its dealers...

I bought my car from Wings of Peterborough and the sales side were good. Their workshop did an oil change service and brake fluid change on my car before I collected it and it was done ok.

£119 is the price at Skoda but most garages will be £70 to £100 or you can diy it for £50 or less depending what make of oil you want. Depends on what service history you want/need.

There isn’t a Haynes manual for this car yet.

I don’t know of any voucher codes for Skoda.

Only okay? What happened?

I guess that reads badly, saying the sales were good and service was ok !

It was OK in a good way - they did it. I could see it had a new filter and clean oil and brake fluid. They also gave me a full printout of the service history which I requested.

Wings of Peterborough would get a good review from me, I just live too far away from them to go back if I needed to use them for service or parts.

Oil and filter change is pretty simple on most cars.

Oil is pretty expensive these days and decent oil will probably set you back £60, filter a fiver.

I've generally done all my own servicing on my cars until recently, when tbh I just don't have the time and it's sometimes worth the extra for somebody else to do it.

I'll probably still do it on one of my cars, maybe the rest when I have more time.

It's also a question of history...  If you are having the car long term, you can save the money and do it yourself but you'll probably find it harder to sell, or at least need to drop the price.

This will be more significant on a higher value car.

I asked about an oil and filter change in Lightcliffs Skoda Warrington and was told its £199. I will do it myself and save £150 and do a better job. No garage mechanic is going to take as much care or spray every accessible nut and bolt under the car while they are under there. I always feel quite pleased once its done, best thing for longevity of a car IMO.

While you could argue your car is worth less I'll keep it 10 years (hopefully) where a FSH might add £250 to the value if I'm lucky but would probably cost me £2000.

Because my car is a taxi it needs a service every 10/11 weeks.

I would never pay ridiculous dealer prices so my mechanic does it for £60 with the proper oil. (I could probably do it myself but it's easier with a lift) He also gets me an air filter and fuel filter for £25 which I change every 10k myself. The cabin filter is £10 from the motor factors and I change it every 30k. The car is on 137k and hasn't needed or had a brake fluid change or coolant flush yet.

Simply sensible gm73. This is what I'll be doing if I keep the car after the warranty runs out.
