  • You'll get a lot of subjective answers, this being one of them     I use and love Michelin Pilot Sport 4s - 235/35 R19s

  • Costco won’t fit new tyres to the front. They’ll put them on the rear by switching the rear wheels to the front so your new rubber is in the rear, as per their policy.

  • Yep absolutely - I have never bought 4 x PS4s in one go as I wouldn't be able to afford to eat for a month

I'm currently running uniroyal rainsports all round and they are pretty good. I also have the 19's

They are a brilliant tyre, to be fair there are lots of great tyres and it is a personal preference.

Lots of factors to consider but for many the main is costs. I paid 500 for 4 rainsports fitted and balanced.

My 245 is on 18" rims and I've fitted Michelin PS'4 all round 225/40/18. I've only used one tyre place in the last 20 odd years and they did me a full set for less than £400 fitted, new valve and balanced.

Top Job

Do you want summer tyres, winter tyres or all year tyres ?

Summer : Michelin Pilot sport 4 or Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric

Winter : Vredestin wintrac pro, Michelin Alpin 6 or Continental TS860

All year : Michelin cross climate, Vredestein Quatrac Or Goodyear vector 4 season Gen2

Assuming summer tyre, I'd go for Michelin ps4s or continental premium contact 6s.

Used Goodyear eagle f1s a lot but I don't think they're quite as good in the wet and I also had two crack on the sidewalk and fail an MOT after only 9k miles, only 50% worn so my faith has gone.

Incidentally, I use either https://www.camskill.co.uk/ or https://lovetyres.com/ for mine.  Get them delivered and it's usually £10-£15 a wheel to get them fitted.  Usually works out cheaper and you get exactly what you want.

Looking at the options https://www.camskill.co.uk/m55b0s468p0/Car_Tyres_-_MPV_Tyres_-_People_Carrier_Tyres_-_19_inch_R19_inch_-_225_35_19_225_35R19

I'd probably go for one of the continentals.

Saying that though, I'm tempted to try vredestein tyres at some point.  I've heard good things.

+1 for Michelin Pilot Sport 4S on 19” rims.  Replaced Conti Sport Contact 5 on the Cupra (4drive) at 3mm as ripping chunks of rubber from the tread - had these on VRS and FR previously with no issues, so perhaps not so good at 200+ ps.

Blackcircles (owned by Michelin) currently have 15% off deal (c.£132 per tyre fitted) , and Costco have buy 2 £50 off, buy 4 &100 off until 21 Sep 19 (c.£127 (incl. VAT) per tyre fitted).

Ran Goodyear Asymmetric 2 and 3 on 18” rim VRS - excellent, and very good rim protection.

Also have Dunlop SportMaxx RT on 18” rims on our Audi - not too bad either.

2018 evo test results here:

Currently running Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 3 and very happy with them. Comfortable, quiet, grip well, and lasting very well too. Covered 18k on the fronts (mostly motorway) and still 3-4mm left.

Anyone tried the latest Toyo Proxis? Ran these on a previous car + was happy with them.

Think Sasha Grace has them in 235/35R19 size on her silver Xtremes fitted to a 2014 Vrs TDi DSG. She's already taken them round Donington and Silverstone circuits.

I used Toyos years ago (I think it was the T1R and T1S) and found them great in the dry, slightly poorer in the wet than the competition, cheap but wore quickly.

I've always got the impression that those were characteristics of many of the performance Toyos, generally being quite soft and grippy but wearing quick as a result.

Personally I'm going to get another pair of Michellin PS4s very soon.  Got them all round at the mo, seem to do pretty well, get really good reviews and are surprisingly well priced (I'm paying £102 fitted a corner for my 18s).

I have Eagle F1 A3s on some axels on my other cars and mostly used F1s on my Accord for a decade.

They're very good but I recently suffered from them failing an MOT (on the Mazda 6) when under half worn due to inner sidewall cracking (both front tyres).  The garage thought they were under inflated - they weren't.  The sidewall just seemed to suffer under the weight of the diesel engine.  The fronts always looks flat when, even when at the max inflation.   As a result I've kinda lost faith and actually switched to PS4s on that car too.

My local tyre place in Fareham.  Like I say though, that's for 225/40/18, not 19".

You can buy them online in that size for ~ £96 delivered but it works out more expensive once you factor in ~ £15 a corner for fitting and balancing.

Another fan of the PS4 here.

Previously has the Asymmetric 3, but feel the PS4 are lasting longer and giving better grip. Not noticing any increase in tyre noise (except just after fitting)

@Alex-W have you seen the South East Central rolling road day on the 16th November

If your not driving like NOAIM all the time then I find the 225/40YR18 Pirelli P Zero not a bad tyre even in all this rain we've had recently they have not let go and once upto temperature they are grippy enough to cope with over 300bhp and 380lb/ft of torque. They were also the tyre I did my 283kph maximum speed run on and only cost me £74 each from Blackcircles in 2016 (paid extra for balancing and fitting). My PS4S are a better tyre no doubt but in 235/35YR19 they are expensive at over £150 per tyre but worth it for summer use.

Yep, trying to work out if I can come along.

I'd like to, but I have two little ones and I'm usually primary parent at the weekends.  May be that I can come along for a couple of hours if I can time it to get a run in.

Sat at my desk presently I'm almost within spitting distance of JKM it's so close, so it seems a shame not to.

£150 per tyre but worth it

😪 as I know to my detriment - especially when the other half ran over a 5" nail causing irreparable damage only 2300 miles after fitting the rears...

Wouldn't go back to anything else on 235/35 R19s though - they've held up well in all temps and weathers since using them.

Bring them along :)  think of it as actively recruiting petrolheads for that weekend detailing assistance!

Alex mailed me a good point.. it's currently on 225s... would 235s be better ? (If yes I'd have 235s front, 225 rears)

IMHO, 235/35 on 19s is much better - both from a grip and rim protection perspective. Replaced my original 225/35 Pirellis with 235s and haven't looked back for 2.5 years :) 👍

All change:) 235 it is. Assume the minor change in size wont mess anything up ? 225 will be on rear for a while

In theory it'll make your Speedo under read by something like 1%, however that's well within tolerance of the speedo anyway.  Chances are the speedo over reads by more than that now.

Basically, it'll be fine.
