New L&k Face lift...Case for rejection!!

Featured Replies

Collected my new L&K 190 Tsi last Thursday (swapped for my L&K 220Tsi) only to find out that it didn't have "lane assist", No option to select it. Took the car back to the dealer the next day (Friday) to show them the problem, they of course agreed but to late to sort anything out.

I thought it would be only a matter of coding, all the cameras etc were all in place and it should be standard equipment on the L&K.

Manager rang me this morning offering a £500 reimbursement good will as after talking to Skoda UK, this item CANNOT be retro fitted. He asked if I was happy with this to which I replied definitely Not, he asked where we should go from here, I replied "Rejection". Manager said he would have to get in contact with Skoda again.

Perhaps I might not be the only one in this situation?

Your thoughts please.....especially that its more than coding.

Do you have High Beam Assist and/or Traffic Sign Recognition?

If so then it should be doable via some coding changes, unless something has changed with MY20 cars.  @Gizmo should be able to advise further.

I think it has to have the Park Assist (parks itself) aswell .......for the extra sensors on the side.

I’m sure it’s just the forward facing (A5?) camera that’s required. Which, if TSR and HBA are enabled, should be present.

This *should* be codeable unless something has changed.

So is it now the case lane assist is no longer standard equipment on the L&K, or has your car arrived without it and it should be fitted?

Doesn't Lane Assist also require the Blind spot radars, hidden inside the rear bumpers?

A critism with the facelift Superb is that many things that were standard r no longer.  Simple things like umbrellas, seat folding levers in the boot, etc etc.

Yes Should be standard according to the latest pricing list, just omitted on mine.

How odd! Well I’d say you’ve got a fair case for rejection then, as the car isn’t as described.

Hope you get sorted soon.

In the UK L&K umbrellas are still present in both front doors, the folding levers from the boot have never been (Hatch, don't know about estate) standard.

In legal terms, you can reject if not of satisfactory quality, or not as described.

Clearly if advertised with lane assist, but not fitted then it is not as described.

As for the £500 compensation, that is a counter offer, doesn’t have to be accepted (and amount appears to have been plucked out of thin air, could just as easily offered say £400 or £700).

I dont know know how much you want lane assist, if yes then not fit for purpose, so reject it; if no then suggest something like £1600 compensation (with aim of meeting in middle of two amounts)

At this stage, I am not clear if it has recently been dropped from L&K spec, or your particular car is missing something that is needed.  In the case of the former, the dealer is at fault for not informing you (and salesman clearly lazy so who cares if it costs him money).  If yours was a misbuild then they can replace it at their expense.   One caveat, all brochures etc always have a disclaimer at end that specs may be revised (but that doesn’t mean seller is entitled to hide them from you, until it is too late)

In practical terms if you want lane assist, and it can’t be supplied, then nothing to stop you rejecting as not suitable and not fit for purpose.  Then free to buy alternative.

Remember your contract is with the supplying dealer (not Skoda UK), so dealer consulting with Skoda is irrelevant.  Nothing to stop you having £1000 compensation, even if dealer only gets reimbursed £500.  It’s not your concern, they are disconnected transactions, if dealer not happy point out if they got a sales bonus from Skoda, would they onpass a share to you the customer, no.  They don’t have back to back contracts so it’s dealers problem, and you don’t need to wait for dealer to make separate compensation deal with Skoda.

Just to throw this in the mix too.

I’ve got LA and it doesn’t exactly work in the same way as a Tesla for instance so whilst nice to have, wouldn’t be a ‘must have’ for a future car unless it was standard.

It should - or close enough. While it won’t change lanes for you, it will still actively keep you in the centre of the lane at all times.

There’s two modes for LA - make sure you have “adaptive lane guidance” selected in the menu. It worked a treat on my O3.

If it's not got lane assist, I also suspect the cruise control will be a normal stay as a fixed velocity type. I think for ACC (match other traffic speed, etc) it needs lane control. Certainly on my 3 yr old L&K the ACC doesn't work unless it can see the lane (and its green, thus detected).

Is this a spec change by Skoda or something missing on your car?

Manufacturers normally cover spec changes in their terms of business.

ACC works with or without Lane Assist.  If it's an L&K then it will have ACC.

@panmat please get this verified by a VCDS owner; unless something has drastically changed in MY20 it should be ok to code this in.  Have a go and if it can't be done, reject the car.  If it can be done, take the compo from the dealer and you've covered your first years insurance and some fuel costs.  I don't see any reason to reject the car if LA can be coded.

EDIT:  I'll also state that I've had this retro coded on one of my Superb 3's and it worked exactly the same as if it were fitted from the factory.  I purposefully only spec'd TSR so that I'd get the A5 camera and then a fellow forum member coded HBA and LA and both worked with no issues whatsoever.  This was a MY17 car.  I done the same (only went for TSR) on a MY18 car and know it can also be coded but haven't bothered yet as TBH it's not a function I use.

The rear seat releases have been a £90 options for the S3 since it was launched IIRC.

Umbrellas are also standard on Sportlines and I *think* SE L's.

No. All you need is the A5 front camera.

You can enable Lane Assist, however dealers are generally not allowed to do these sort of things. If I were you, I'd take the compensation and find someone close to you on the VCDS Map to code it for you. Here are the coding instructions:

Long Coding

Byte 04 Bit 6 - checked

Byte 11 Bit 1 - checked

STG A5
