My cars having an electronic nervous breakdown

Like I have previously mentioned, Stop/Start system only fails (seemingly) at the same time as the oil sensor failure, it occasionally stops working when I have made loads of short journeys with auxiliaries such as air con and heated screens or seats on. But a 30' trip sorts it out.

In my professional opinion your car is possessed by Satan. Either that or there is an electrical system fault such as a faulty ground connection, loose multi-pin connector, or main wiring loom fault. Hopefully your Skoda tech is able to quickly diagnose the real issue and exorcise it without further ado.

Just thinking back to other posts involving intermittent faults - have you had or seen any issues with mice? They like the soya coating on the wiring looms

No mice...Only mouse is the one next to my PC

Well... For the last 12 days or so since I booked it in, the bloody minded thing has behaved itself perfectly, like a petulant child knowing that if it steps out of line it's going to get a tanning. I've been to Nottingham, Derby, Cheshire and back twice in that time and absolutely amazing performance and handling, didn't miss a beat. 🥰

Took it in today and they found loads of passive faults, most of which are very minor and would not be of the kind to be of concern. They have now completely erased all of the existing problems from the memory and reset everything apart from the minor mods that I have done and it has behaved itself perfectly today with a bit of dual carriageway driving and a good mix of town and country driving.

So it's under watch by myself and SUK, if it occurs again then they'll have to deal with SUK technical department to seek help and advice. Hopefully it won't come to that.

Your bad luck seems to have transferred to me. Wife's Karoq decided to lock us out last week and following the AA Patrolman's intervention her car has been resting at the local stealers with them scratching their collective heads trying to figure out how to make our keys talk to the car as the car suddenly does not detect or 2 keys near the car. Going to ask for a free hire car tomorrow to keep SWMBO mobile.

That's because I'm a kind, caring and sharing member of Briskoda. 🥰

Mine was a motor glitch and it has been sorted after getting me a dunking in Calais! 😤

You're welcome and have a nice day!

That resolution didn't last long. The fault is back again! 🤬

SUKCS have been advised again about it and it has been escalated to a service manager. So the saga continues....

Back to Garlands on 18th... 👿😞

I'm starting to wonder what my legal rights are or whether to cancel the lease on it and return it to SUK.

Absolutely sick and tired of this, each day I take off costs me just over £310 in lost earnings.

I would definitely see what your cancelation right are, as this is costing you too much. I would also be asking for a lot of gratis service etc if you do decide to keep the car, o make up for the lost earnings

Why don't you ask them to collect and return the car, Winchester Skoda pick my car up from my office and return it to the office when they have finished.

I've dropped on your thread a few times and really feel for you but you've shown the patience of a saint in getting the problem resolved. I'm surprised you haven't investigated your legal position already. Even if you do get it sorted, you're never really going to enjoy or trust the car again.

Tonight's scan shows the same faults.

Engine oil sensor failure (high temperature), but nothing on the dashboard/VC. 🤔

Alarm sensor failure (stage 1)

Central Door Locking Motor (Open Circuit), but it opens and locks OK?

All active, but some are intermittent. At least the over voltage one has disappeared (wish the bloody car would!)

The question is regarding the last two, could they make the car easier to get into or steal and, knowing that they are there, should the car get stolen, what are the implications on my insurance?

Q: Just wondering could either a loose fragment or wrong grade of oil affect the oil sensor?

NB: I've only topped up about 250ml of oil of the grade that they recommend for the car as it was only at about the ⅓ up the dotted area on the dipstick.

Wouldn't think so as that is the purpose of the oil filter to collect anything that could cause damage to the engine.

What about the grade of oil?

All the sensors monitor is things like idle time, temperatures and rpm to monitor how an engine is being used. So an engine that is left to idle for 30 minutes before making a 15 minute commute is working much harder than a car which is started from cold and driven immediately for 45 minutes at a fairly constant 2,000rpm motorway journey. The oil sensors cannot tell what type of grade of oil you put in this is an urban myth.

Back into Garlands again today to have the same error rectified again.

They have it all day. It's driving me nuts, I've just driven the 17 miles from home to Aldershot via some local A roads, A3, A31 and A331 with a mixture of fast, gentle and stop/start traffic and nothing. Not a sign of the faults.

If anyone has any ideas what could be wrong with this wretched vehicle please let Garlands know or SUK...

Because I'm on the verge of chucking the car back.

Only way for them to properly find these faults is to keep your car for a few days and give you a loaner.

That way one of the techs (ideally a master tech) can drive yours to commute to work for a few days. That way they should come across these faults and get a scan going as they appear.

Unfortunately that's not going to be an option, because my car is registered to me and it needs security clearance to park where I work due to the ANPR cameras and it takes a few days to get it sorted, by the time that happens I'd have the car back and the process of transferring everything would have to start again.

So that's just not a viable option. It might be if I had a week or two off on leave, but I don't, until Mid December and then it has to go to France and Belgium for its festive booze cruise.

Got the car back and.... The situation is unresolved.

Garlands have downloaded the car and sent it to SUK Technical Department to see why it has the following faults:

Oil sensor (recurring intermittent)

Door Central Locking (Open Circuit)

Alarm sensor (Stage 1) failure.

Tyre Pressure Monitoring System it failed alert me of a deflated tyre.

The Gateway failure (over voltage) - suspicion is on my power adapter so that is considered to have been resolved.

Does anyone know of an adapter that doesn't cause the problem? If you do can you let me know what make and model you have please.

I'm now going to have to wait for SUK Technical to come back to Garlands with a solution, it just baffles me why the car has all of a sudden developed all of these annoying and unrelated faults which are ruining my enjoyment of the car, a car which (when it behaves) is an absolute joy to drive. 🙁

Did you make enquires to cancelling the lease with the car not fit for purpose.

  • Author

That will be the next step. Today the steering wheel wouldn't release, it just shook until I gave it a good wrench and it unlocked itself.

Another fault that SUK Customer Service will be notified of later. 👿
