Speaker sizes??

Featured Replies

Good evening,

Does anyone know what the standard speaker sizes are please??

I'm looking to try and upgrade them but I can't find the sizes listed anywhere and was wanting to try and get the parts in / costed before taking all the door cars off.

I appreciate more work would be needed re amps, but just trying to see what my options are.

Cheers in advance

Not sure on sizes but pretty sure that the speakers are riveted into the door, so changing is a lot of hassle.

Mid-bass speakers are 6.5", midranges are 3" if you've got them.  Not sure about the tweeters, but I think they're less than 1".

Steviedakota is correct , the 6.5s are riveted on, the mids are screwed in.

is that 6.5" straight into the door, or are they on plastic adaptors (dreams of putting 8" mid bass speakers in front doors)

They look like this.  Basically they've got the adapters built into them and a grille that goes over the top to bring them up against the door cards.  If you've got the Canton system, the front 6.5s are 8 ohms and I think the rears are 2 ohms.  The front mids are 4 ohms, I'm not sure about the tweeters, but I assume they're 4.

This is the hole in the door, you might struggle with 8s.  Pretty decent depth though.

Piece of warning, manual states that upgrading speakers is dangerus because it can mess with the side air crash sensors. I wouldn't risk it. Essentially it means that sound deadening is also not allowed (which I did).

Hmmm, never heard of that before.  I wonder if any other cars have similar systems.

I've had the amp out and used aftermarket amps and not noticed a difference, so you're probably right.

Rich,

whats your setup.

i'm wanting to lob a sub (or 2) in the boot, a bit ten to EQ and do crossover duties, and stick some amps in to the original speakers to start with to see if stuff can be improved.

keep putting it off, but i should really get my arse in gear and do something.

wonder if my Mk2 estate sub box could be made to fit 😕

The offside rear speaker on my Canton Superb has started distorting the sound badly. Car is a 67 plate so its up to me to replace it. i notice that the speakers available have different depths so does anyone know just how much space there is to play with?

I want to have something better than stock but not looking to drastically upgrade the speakers as i mainly listen to voice rather than music. But similarly don't want to waste money by buying something that is too big.

Hi, I'm having the same problem-the nearside front door speakers have blown. Have booked the car in to an auto ICE specialist, and he will be upgrading both doors with Audison two-way and tweeters-but I've just noticed a thread on here suggesting no upgrades should be done as it interferes with the air bag set up. Is this true?

Just to add, Mid speakers are only on vehicles with Canton sound system also.

Basically, the door cavity is a sealed chamber, if there was an impact on the door the pressure increases and this is picked up by the sensor,

So yes, you can add additonal bits, but they need to be sealed to the door and air tight.

Hi

Did you upgrade the speakers? I am looking at doing this, just some decent aftermarket 6.5" into standard wiring as one isnt working and the other crackles badly.

Any advice?

Thanks
