Fabia Mk2 Broken front spring replacement

Featured Replies

Hi

I have broken the front spring [nearside] on my Fabia 2, Estate, 1.2, 2011.

I have replaced springs on a Renault and a Ford basically they are similar

My Fabia differs to the Fabia Mk1 and the above in that the suspension assembly

is not held in place on the suspension turret by the usual three bolts or setscrews.

The suspension assembly appears to be held in place by the 21mm nut on the top of the piston rod

Usually I take the complete assemble to the workbench apply the spring compressors and replace the broken spring and

refit the complete assemble to the vehicle and hold in place in the turret by the three bolts

On the Mk 2 is the suspension spring a 'slip on' item that doesn't need spring compresses?

Please help

The 21mm nut will just be holding the topmount to the suspension turret like the three bolts you are expecting would be.

Further down the shock piston there's another nut which will be compressing topmount/bearing/spring disc onto the spring, see items 20, 4, 2 and 19 here: https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/fabia/fab/2011-697/4/411-411011/#2

That's just one of a few diagrams picked more or less at random from here: https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/fabia/fab/2011-697/4/

If you look at your data sticker in the boot or service book to find the G0x number that differs between the various "suspension shock absorber" diagrams on that page, you'll be able to see the exact information with part numbers for your vehicle.

You def need spring compressors, changed a broken spring on mine not so long ago, was only after 28k miles, shows the state of our roads !!

You will need a 21mm "cranked" head ring spanner as you have to hold the strut from turning in the top of the shock which you cannot do with a socket, unless you have the factory tool.
