Afternoon all,

 

Looking to get a new set of alloys for my Mk1 2005 1.9. It currently has a set of 17" 2003 Audi A3 alloys, kindly donated from my Dad's car, but because they're 7j wheels, they catch like no tomorrow on the inner guards on the offside back wheel. I could spend a lot of time tinkering, and changing stuff but the amount i've already spent on tyres has made it completely not worth it, and I'd rather have something that I know just fits and doesn't cause uneven tyre wear.

 

Currently looking at these (https://www.performancealloys.com/enzo-w-silver?pcd=5x100) - Not a bad price, can get 16" variants with a 5x100 stud pattern and just about the right offset (compared to the OEM wheels - for ref, OEM wheels were 14" steel wheels), but my question is, has anyone bought these, or similar to these, and still had issues with them rubbing on the inner guards?

Some owners have simply fitted thin wheel spacers to the rears to stop the rubbing with big rims.

Due to the thickness of these though, they can't be spaced, plus the offset is miles off - it'd need at least 2cm of spacing to get it right, and then they'd start colliding with the arches

What size tyres are you using?

^^^ What he said.... Appropriate size is 205/40x17 though 205/45 might fit with inducements.

should be no issue running 17" 7j audi A3 wheels, I used to run S3 wheels (7.5J) on mine the tyre needs to be 205/40/17 or 215/40/17 at a push

Thank you all for the replies - think that's given me the answer i was looking for - all 4 are 225 45 17 - which are way out of spec of what you guys have said hahahha 

Oh dear, you can't use A3 sized tyres on a Fabia, A3 is a VW Golf platform and Fabia is a Polo.

You only need new tyres, not new wheels, stick with 205/40/17 and all your problems are solved.

Yeah totally wrong tyre. Bet it looks like a roller skate at the minute 🤣

 

fit 205/40/17 or 215/40/17 and you are sweet
