Use the voice control to adjust the heater settings.

Because voice control work so well 😂😂😂😂.

Ive not once used a system where it hasn't been told to F off because it’s so useless. Shame most don’t even understand that.

It's probably different for everyone, but personally i don't really understand this desire to have physical AC controls.

I'm setting AC literally twice per year - temp for summer and temp for winter, and otherwise leave it on auto.

All other function which i would like to have physical buttons for are there, either on central console, or on the steering wheel (like volume control etc.).

What I can’t believe is that you can control the air con with voice control when it’s on but you can’t use voice control to turn it on when it’s switched off.

once again you can’t do anything without touching that bloody screen.

You would at least think that if you press the Air Con button when it’s switched off the system would at least work it out that you probably would want to switch it on.

Our aircon is always on. If it is turned off for a while, the seal can deteriorate, refrigerant will leak and the aircon will fail. Our 02 reg Octavia was 9 years old when we sold it, the aircon had been on all that time and never failed or needed regassing. Modern aircon units are very efficient and don't affect mpg significantly. Our voice control works perfectly for navigation, setting aircon and radio.

I wish they some manual HVAC controls, its crazy and overly complicated to change some basic regularly used functions on the touchscreen, especially for us in the UK as its designed for LHD cars.

Although I have not driven one, interesting to see the new Fabia has HVAC manual controls which most of the motoring journalists love.

Personally I rarely use Aircon, unless high speed on hot days, windows open at low speed is better for economy, Aircon takes around 7-10% but can be up to 35% in extreme conditions, i.e. low revs / idling, but that's extreme!! Air con remains the single largest draw on electricity from the engine (the compressor). In fairness I do turn it on occasionally as Jim says just to keep it 'lubricated' but only a few times a year and I have never had a problem since a Golf in 2007. Aircon is more efficient than open windows at motorway speeds. Personally I am not a fan of Aircon 'smell' whether in a building or car, I prefer the 'fresh' air, accepting its rarely fresh!!

For an alternative point of view:

Yes, I too like to have the aircon on auto most of the time, but on a really hot day I want a blast of as much cool air as I can get, right on my face, until the car gets to my 21 degree preferred temp at which point the auto setting can maintain it.

Same in winter, on a very cold morning, I want max warm air blasted to my face and feet, until the car gets to my preferred temp.

Left to its own devices in auto mode the car starts with relatively low fan speeds and does not direct all air to the facial vents.

That's why i said, it's probably different for everyone :)

I'm not bothered by lack if physical controls. Besides many people says, that with physical controls one can control AC without looking at it. Well, i never learned how to do that :) Having 2 VAG cars with same controls before (Leon 5F and Ateca), i could only change temp and fan speed without looking at the panel. For everything else i had to look. If you think of panel placement, it wasn't really that much safer, as now at least display is so high, that it's much easier and faster to look at it, than to look for button markings way lower...
