Buying new Karoq - what equipment?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

im looking at new Karoq 1.0tsi with Style equipment package (Croatia).

Now i have to decide which additional options to take and need some help from you guys with examples from experience.

I had a test drive yesterday so here are the questions after that (prices are for Croatian market, not UK):

1. Alarm option with internal sensors (190 gbp)  - is it any good or do i need an aftermarket solution?

2. Digital cockpit (330 gbp) - stock dials are rubbish, very ugly (personal opinion). I will have Bolero unit so no SatNav (not a big deal). Can i make changes for layout views on Bolero for digital cockpit?

3. Rear camera (210 gbp) - is it really necessary with stock parking sensors? I find it nice but don't know is it usable in the long run.

4. Sport seats (250 gbp) - test unit was with factory ones, look and feel great but after a few minutes driving they felt odd to me. I then tried sport seats in Superb and Fabia and they instantly feel way more comfortable, at least to me.

5. Variable boot floor (130 gbp) - is it really usable with larger items? If i ever get something larger from IKEA it will fit even without raised floor.

6. Canton speaker upgrade (290 gbp) - tested Canton in Superb and frankly, stock Karoq sounded the same or better. Will it get better over time or?...

Car usage will be 95% city driving, 80-100km/h max, 5% holiday trips.

All suggestions are appreciated if you feel i should add different option.

Rgds

Canton usually makes a big difference if it's fed with high quality input.

Had a well known tracks in FLAC on USB drive for test so that is not the reason for the difference.

Just listened the same in my colleagues Kodiaq on Canton and its better than in Superb. Probably the size and length of the Superb is the problem.

I think if i take Canton that i will get spare wheel.

As for winters, last year here in Zagreb we got like only 2 weeks of something like snow.

Good point, this is correct!

Rear camera, only if you need to reverse into tight parking places, otherwise waste of money

Variable floor is useful (most people keep it up all the time, so can just slide in bags (putting in makes little difference, it is easier to take things out if same level as dont have to lift them over sill)

Seats is personal.   Possibly the seat position, or steering wheel position was not set correctly which made you uncomfortable.  The sports seats have higher bolsters at the sides, not sure the centre of the padding varies much.

Canton, maybe, but possibly won't be that much better in busy city driving as always be outside noise competing

I think the same for camera. My home and work location don't have tight parking spaces so i don't need it there, sensors are enough.

Interesting thing i didn't think of for variable floor. Without any lip things could possibly fall out when opening the door if the trunk is full.

Seats are the biggest issue, i just really hope that the sports ones are at least the same or better than factory ones.

I know that the test drive isn't enough to get a feel for them but usually i don't get uncomfortable in any car after a few minutes of driving.

As for Canton, i really, really like listening to music while driving. If i ditch the camera and variable floor i can get Canton. I will for sure use Canton more than variable floor or camera.

Ok, here are 2 new options for considering:

1. double sided boot floor (cloth/rubber)

2. heated front window washer noozle

I love the rear camera, but at 75 my neck is a bit stiff... :)

I must say I have grown quite fond of the excellent rear view camera. It has proven very useful and as I was not used to the size the camera gives a great sense of space. Way better than the hire cars I have had in America. So I personally would miss not having the camera.

The other features for me would be the ACC and Traffic Assistance. My leg suffers a bit from strain so it helps tremendously in stop start traffic and anything where you are following the leader and happy to sit back a bit.

Extras, I added included ACC that I find very useful but a lot of my driving is out of town,

The Canton system is good when fed a decent input and you get the spare wheel (absolute must for me). You do loose the dashboard central storage though as it's filled with an additional speaker.

The heated windscreen that comes with heated washer jets is really useful .

The rear camera is good when reverse parking close to a wall as the display shows the distance required to open the tail gate to avoid unwanted body modification. The reversing camera also has its own washer jet to clean it (rear window wash)  that is a nice touch as well.

- Camera is must, at least for me. It has a good view quality and allows you to actually see what's behind the car. The SUV body is taller, so it will hide you more objects. Camera also helps you to actually see the trafic when exiting in reverse.

- Heated Steering Wheel- it's a pleasure to your fingers when the temperatures are low. Attention: it's not possible to have it togheter with sport steering wheel.

- Heated Windscreen. I don't have this option, but it's good when it snows or when the windscreen is frozen.

- Blind Spot Monitor, because it gives more trust that there is no car in the dead angle. Also, it comes with rear traffic assist, which is a radar for the vehicles coming to you when going in reverse.

- AAC is also fine

So, we bought a Karoq SE L, not sure how that equates to a style. Its already quite well equipped, but based on experience with my Superb, we added the rear camera, ACC, heated screen and jets as well as a few other bits. I'd say that the camera is invaluable as is the ACC, both of those get used a lot and make reversing and motorway driving respectively much easier and stress free. The heated screen gets used more than I expected on both cars, even clearing a bit of mist is much quicker than with the blowers as well as the obvious benefits in ice and frost.

Ok people, thanks for your inputs, will take them all in consideration.

So far Canton is out, rear camera is back in :)

Question regarding tyre sizes. Factory standard is 17" wheels.

Is it worth going straight away for 18" option? Only city driving, no rough terrain.

Also, is it good idea to get wheel arches protection?

I don't have wheel arches protection. From my point of view they are counting only for design. I don't miss them.

Regarding tires, I have the 18th". I think that also 17 would be fine. Also, the price for 17" tires is better than for 18".

I would add front sensors. They are also helpful.

Blind spot system is also great. It comes with Rear Traffic Assist.

I hope that your Style version has the LED lights , the electric boot, Kessy, Autohold.

Will you choose also the DSG?

Our Style has Full LED package, Kessy, Autohold, both front and rear sensors...doesn't have electric boot which is fine for me.

Blind spot and rear traffic is quite expensive option, some 1000 gbp.

I wont get DSG, just to keep price down...

That's strange.

Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Assist cost me 341 EUR in Slovenia.

Sorry, my oversight, Blind Spot option is 350€ but it doesn't state its with Rear Traffic Assist.

Still, not something i find useful. If i managed to get by until now without that, i don't see the need to get it now :)

As far as I know it's always the combination of both features.

Don't forget to add the spare wheel back in then...

It's a benefit in the summer too, the heated panel inside the glass also reflects the sun, helping to keep the interior cool during the hotter months.

The Karoq Scout that I borrowed for 6 weeks, while my 1.5 SEL was awaiting its first software update, had auto-dipping headlights as a standard feature. I admit that I doubted their usefulness but, by the time I handed the car back, I had grown to really appreciate the feature .......... and it cannot be aftermarket fitted. I would certainly specify this on a new car.

Whilst it's a different system I was thinking the complete opposite tonight.

The auto-dimming LED headlights on my Mercedes-Benz E-Class are pretty quick, but they only react once they see the other vehicles lights, by which time I've already blinded them.
