Right hand traffic, left hand traffic Octavia 3, 67 plate

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does anyone know if I still need to have headlight converter driving in Europe even though there is a setting of light for Right hand traffic in infotainment system.

I check this function against a wall and realise that it does nothing but lower  a tiny bit of headlight beam. Lleft headlight focus pattern doesn't move to right at all.

I drove 1500 miles in France this summer, with no flashes from oncoming cars, having changed the light setting. Ok most of it was daylight driving, but the headlights came on in the rain. I have never been convinced about how useful a bit of black tape has been.

AFAIK you only need headlight converters if you have the halogen headlamps on the O3, the bi-Xenon and LED either can be switched or auto-switch using location data from the GPS.

If you're lucky to get GPS to do it that is. I've yet to have it do any bl00dy thing.

I am in France for the winter and have set the LED headlights via the infotainment system for conduire à droite .

I have not done much driving at night but last week drove about 60 miles in the dark with headlights on and using auto dipping.

Was not flashed once .

Guys, I am talking about legal requirement of driving in Europe. It doesn't matter if opposite driver flashes or not, but if I am pulled by police officer, will I be covered as legal requirement met if my lighting is set for Right hand Traffic?

I've driven on continental Europe on numerous occasions, my understanding of the the law is that your headlights should not obstruct or infringe on the other driver's vision. So if the opposite driver flashes you as some sort of revenge or recompense for you obstructing their vision I would say that would matter more than whatever setting you have it on -- as the police would have a valid reason to pull you over, no?

If that setting by lowering the main beam does not obstruct the vision of driver's then you have complied with the law.  On my previous car I would lower the main beam.

Why not contact SUK for a technical / legal opinion ?

Ok, going to ask via livechat now.

P.S: No need conversion kit if I have that setting in infotainment system, SUK said.

When it works (manually changed via infotainment system) then there's no problem with driving over in the EU with the car during night or poor weather.

For me it's an issue getting the damned car to do the changeover in the first place! 🙁

Have just driven back home in the dark with auto dipping activated for about 40 miles along main roads and country lanes .

Was not flashed once which suggests dipped beam not considered a nuisance by other road users.

Regards
