Electric Window fault - ideas?

Featured Replies

Hello!

Does anyone have any knowledge of the electric windows on the Rapid? My front passenger window has stopped working this morning. It wound halfway down then I hear a loud bang from within the door (sounded like something snapping) and the window wound up very slowly with a slight grinding/grating noise. The window now wont wind down at all, and if you press the button on the door you can hear a grinding/grating noise from within the door itself as though something is moving about. The window hasn't cracked and doesn't move if you try to push it downwards with your hands.

Curiously, a decent sized greasy smear (bigger than a finger print) has also appeared on the inside of the window from where it wound down to before the bang. Not sure if that's relevant? Quite thick and reminds me of Vaseline.

Any suggestions on what could have happened would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

I would suggest you take the doorcard off and have a look.

It is typical for plastic parts to crack and break. The grease is from the windows mechanism.

You'll know exactly what is wrong when you'll open the door cover.

Unfortunately I have nothing to take the door panel off with.

Booked it into local garage so they can have a look instead.

Probably best, the clips that secure the door card are notoriously weak, and inevitably break, especially at this time of year when they're cold / brittle.

Even if you were able to get the door card off yourself then the problem doesn't sound like a simple DIY fix, new parts will almost certainly be needed.

Let us know how you get on.
