Engine stops during start with DSG gearbox

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have really strange issue with my superb (MY2016) dsg 2.0tdi 110kw crlb.

During past moth it became more and more frequent.

So, I start my car engine in the morning, turn off start/stop, start driving until the first intersection (approx. 100-200 meters), stop on it and here the show starts: when i release brake pedal and try to move from standstill, engine suddundly stops and pops up message on dash "move lever to P and start engine manually)! Like with a manual gearbox if you release clutch too fast without applying accelerator enough.

Until this, i though its even impossible with auto transmision to stop engine moving from standstill.

I scaned several times with vcds for errors without luck, its clear. And it happens only at very beggining of the day, later this does not happens anymore until next morning.

Does anybody have any ideas why this happens?

Mine does something similar; any call for engine braking just after pulling away following a cold start (e.g. controlling the car's speed when leaving a parking space) will stall the engine. Poor integration between the engine and transmission when the idle speed is raised after a cold start I think.

few times have been asked for that when seat belt were disconnected before destination reached

Was just going to ask if you let the car idle for a few minutes after cold start up does it still do what you describe.

My old Audi A3 tdi pd 170 (manual transmission) used to be very prone to stalling after cold starting, used to have to give it a real bootful of throttle and get the turbo spinning to get it going it was almost like the air and fueling wasn't right during cold start high idle situations. Sorry thats probably fairly irrelevant to your problem.

My MY16 Superb occasionally used to stall on a cold engine when releasing the brake pedal. I haven't had it happen for a couple of years though, not sure if the dealer applied a software update that may have resolved it.

Hi, I have same problem. Do you find solution?

2018 2.0 190hp TDI here with same "feature". Today outside temp was -18 degrees when this happened. Car turned on nicely, transmission to R, after releasing the break pedal, clutch engages and car tries to move, but engine stalls and car stops. Info screen says put gear selector to P and turn engine on manually (manually seems quite stupid, as there is only one way to crank the engine runing). This happened three times before I was able to get going. This has to do something with the clutch operation in cold climate, but very annoying thing still. I guess the oil in transmission is so stiff that it effects to the clutch pack negatively. It felt like the car would have had to allow the clutch to slip a bit when break was released, but instead it just slammed the clutch wide shut and made the engine stall.

I used a cheap OBD2 and carscanner software to disable stop/start.

Best £20 I've spent.

Start/stop was already disabled so it is not the reason behind this, but You are correct, those are well spent pennies!
