RS 220kmh top speed

Featured Replies

restricted artificially by VW-group pecking order, or by the engine’s capabilities. if the former, any way to de-limit?

@chrisluciofg

Have you tried it and is that all you got it to do?

I hope you live in Germany and even if you do, if you want to go faster than 220 kph on anything other than a racetrack, you should be locked up. Wanting to do it in a tall vehicle like a Kodiaq is even dafter !!

?

Where did some Car Reviewers get the idea the vRS would have huge front brake discs.

Was the car featured above really totally standard as the production models are Globally?

Same brake fluid, pads etc... What tyres are on it?

I believe the front brake discs on my 2 litre TSI Edition are 340 mm , do they come in any bigger sizes?

Nope. Only the rear discs are slightly bigger.

Front calipers have 4 pistons instead of 2.

Rear discs are ventilated.

Tiguan Allspace 240 has max speed 228 km/h. Aerodynamics?

@chrisluciofg

Have you had yours flat out yet, and did you need to go any faster than you were going?

The fastest I have driven is 130mph on the autobahn in my previous car (Jag s-type) and that was only for a couple of miles. I found it a little stressful and was much more relaxed at around 90 -100 mph , but I guess the more you travel at these speeds, then the more you get used to it and everybody has their own comfort zone.

I’m sure I will drive on the autobahn again (German wife) in the Kodiaq and would be interesting to find out how the top speed feels. 🤔

Nowadays it`s hard to maintain 200 + km/h speeds at autobahns, because they are overloaded. I`ve done 250 km/h (155 mph) on my Mondeo in the past, but it was just for few miles like you said.

Olderman you are showing your age.

At 95 MpH in the slow lane on an empty motorway you are o.k to slow at times. AND he is talking RS.

Time for the UK politicians to follow up on their promise to raise UK limits to 80 MpH.

Why is it daft the cars are perfectly capable of faster. Plenty of SUVs with higher top speeds.

They're designed to and are very safe. We're not driving Ford Cortinas anymore.

Now whether you wanted to go that fast on a crowded autobahn with your family in tow that's a different question.

There are plenty SUV's with higher top speeds. Hence the OP's thread.

They are designed to be and are very safe as long as all goes well.   140 MPH + Blowouts must be interesting.

It seems that Skoda went with what they tested as being safe or what VW told them they could go to.

Now regardless of if you have family, friends or loved ones in your vehicle, other people do have in theirs.

No idea about speed limits in New Zealand.

?

What is the max speed that anyone here has had their Kodiaq vRS up to with the accelerator to the floor?

Been couple of times in Germany with RS, but with roof box attached (speed limitation 130 km/h).

Have done In Poland about 180 km/h max temporarily when overtaking and freeing the lane for kamikazes (140 km/h limit).

It does quite low revs at these speeds, so I tend to think 220 max speed is somehow limited by software.

VW Tiguan Allspace 240 does 228 km/h. Read somewhere, that Kodiaq`s Cx (wind resistance coefficient) is better than Tiguan`s. Who knows.

I think it’s software limited, but running stock power it loses its breath at 220 anyways. If you wanted a proper ‘bahn stormer you would’ve bought a Superb 280/272.

240 PS may suffocate a bit at 220 km/h. But not remapped 292 PS.

Goes like a hell. No need for petrol 280.

Remark: of course you can remap 280 to 360.

Or even to 550.

But this is a whole different story.

Don’t know if I would be comfortable over 120 I’m guessing the rs may be stiffened you a bit and definitely not on my standard wheels feels horrible round long corners . It’s dangerous to have a slow car on autobahns really have to have to concentrate hard if overtaking and get back in quick . In a fast car people over there will get out of the fast lane quickly which is nice . I’m usually driving at quiet times but my last car felt more comfortable way faster speeds than 130mph ... most tunes will take the limiter off however when my last car was in for service the error code maximum speed exceeded popped up when I forgot to erase it

😁Good effort!

The fastest cars I’m seeing on the autobahn these days are VW Passat estates!

What did your dealer say!?

Just gave me a funny look and laughed . It wasn’t in warranty or anything

i've never understood why torque-laden cars have to rely on revs for speed. why can't taller gearing compensate for a diesel's reluctance to rev ?

how much % improvement in performance feel (rather than dyno figures) in the 0-80 kmh range ?

A car's maximum speed is determined by the power, rather than the torque.  The trick is to get the gearing such that the revs for maximum power coincide with the maximum speed that that power can produce.

Because the top speed of a car is determined by its power and not torque. Torque is simply a measure of how much power it puts out at particular revs.

Two principle forces act on a car at its top speed - the aerodynamic force trying to slow it down, and the force generated by the power of the engine trying to push it forwards. When they are the same size, the car stops accelerating.
