If you have the MY19 245 then or any Amundsen with 04xx firmware then you can activate the Off Road screen with VCDS level tools and enable the water and oil temperature gauges. If you want the Sport screen with a separate tab to open it and the G meter and lap timer then you will need ODIS-E to add the FeC to the radio. The workaround is much easier and gives you everything you really need with at home tools on the newer Amundsen’s.

Brilliant, thank you Sasha.

Yes, it’s the Sport screen with a tab to open it that I want.

What is ODIS-E and FeC?

Where can I get ODIS-E and is it something I can do myself, without any sort of expertise?

My knowledge of coding (or unlocking) is limited to what I can do with the Carly App, which isn’t a lot!

Thank you for the map.

ODIS (Offline Diagnosis Information System I believe) is generally considered to be 'dealership level' software and while it's available outside of the dealership network it's not considered a DIY thing, it's much more specialist. FeC is a Feature Enable Code, which is (as I understand it) what is applied via ODIS to enable the sports dials.

Having them in my car as standard I can safely say they're absolutely not worth going to any hassle or expenditure to add them.

Both software companies inherited the term "coding" by making a coarse, phonetic translation of German "Kodierung" (in VAS software by VW) which means programming. Two wrongs don't make a right. I rest my case. Happy coding!

I don’t recommend getting it for this job as it’s expensive, requires you to find someone who has access to VW servers etc. Not worth it. OBDEleven and the workaround coding I have posted above that will activate the off road screen and then the temp dials within it plus activation of the lap timer on the Maxidot or VC gives you everything the Sport screen does apart from the G meter and boost gauge which doesn’t accurately measure boost anyway. If you want those, download Skoda One App on your phone and run it via SmartLink.

Which OBDEleven would you recommend? I’m just looking on Amazon and they list four different ones - Pro, Standard, Ultimate & Starter.

If you want to show the angle of rotation of the wheels on this menu you have to make the Slope Angle mod below.

Menu Display Angle of Slope - angle of rotation of the wheels
With this modification you can add new functionality to Mod OFFROAD Display Menu.
This mod by itself does not work, you must have activated the OFFROAD menu.
This will show graphically the angle of rotation of the wheels to turn the wheel.

Display Sport Temp gauges in Off Road Screen

With this mod the Off Road screen can be used to display water and oil temp gauges without activating the Sport screen via ODIS. Has been tested on all 04xx Amundsen FL software and on MIB2.5 Columbus 11xx software. Others may work.

PRO is the one. You will need this for long coding.

You're probably right, certainly as far as expenditure is concerned. It just annoys me that some vRSs have them and mine doesn't.

I'm a fan of gauges, and modern performance cars generally seem to have a lack of them, compared to performance cars of the past.

At least it has the most important one - oil temperature.

As far as I know the sports dials have only been present on 'special' vRS models: the launch 245, the 245 Challenge and I think the prefacelift 230 may have had them too?

  • Author

I think the MY18 vRS had them too.

MY18 spec would be what I referred to as 'launch 245', available from mid 2017.

The MY18 standard vrs models (184 and 230) didn't get the dials though, fairly sure.

That makes sense.

What MY would my car be do you think?

It has a build date of 4/4/19

Is that an MY19 or 20?

I assumed, perhaps wrongly, it was a 19.

I thought MY20 is the new shape Octavia.

April 19 build would be MY19 still.

MY20 would be July 2019 onwards (Week 28) and for the Mk3 Octavia saw minimal changes.

  • Author

Good knowledge Kenai, thanks for that. I assumed right then.

Minimal changes to not include the sport gauges, I hope.

That would really pi*s me off, haha.

It does, very accurately, but it gives you absolute boost not the relative boost you are used to talking about.

It has no means of measuring the static air pressure outside and subtracting it from the total air pressure generated by the turbo.

In days of dial boost gauges it was easy as the just put a hole in the back of the gauge to allow outside air pressure to the other side of the capsule, however they could be affected by the increase in air pressure with speed in the cabin as the air forced its way through the dash vents quicker than it escaped through the back meaning it looked like you were loosing boost at speed.

To get a relative boost reading you need to subtract outside air pressure from the reading (easier if you work in bars and millibars)

Don't worry about the gauges, in 26-1/2k miles I've only used mine a few times & as said before, they're of more use to the front passenger as when you're "on it" you haven't really got time to look at them.

Don't feel hard done by it though, I haven't got a GPF either, now there's something I'm really gonna miss🤔🤔🤔

Was it MY18 or 19 they started fitting GPFs to the vRS?

MY19 that got the GPFs, MY18 don't have them.

  • 1 year later...

Thanks (yet again) @SashaGrace, I followed your instructions for "Menu Display Compass - OFF ROAD WITH AND WITHOUT NAV" and I do now have the sports gauges screen available in my 2020 MkIII Octavia Scout (tap the "Car" button repeatedly on the head unit to cycle until the three gauges appear).

As you noted, in the absence of a physical compass, the compass display just says "North"... heh.

(Unless, of course, my car has a compass, and there's something else I need to code/tweak/set to let this gauge access said compass?)

How would I check if my car physically has a compass? (It has no nav system).

thanks, again!

The compass is normally built into the satnav so without nav, you won't have one :)
