17" on vrs?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if a set of 17" audi a4 wheels will fit my 245 vrs estate? There are some for sale nr me quite cheap and after a set of different wheels whilst I sell on my 19" extremes

They are 5x112, 7.5j which I think my wheels are but mine are 19's and read about 17's fouling on the calipers in some cases? Ad also says ET45 but unsure what that means.....

Cheers

Are the 19" extremes for sale on here....?

No, I wont be putting them up for sale until I have another set of wheels in their place

I think 17" wheels do fit but it's very tight fit on the front brake disc's 18" are a safer bet

I would be careful about selling the std wheels on as it will reduce the sell on price of the car when part exchanging. I have 19s on my Octy and find the ride very compliant.

Why do you want to sell the 19s?

My aim is to get the 18" geminis, however need to get some wheels for the transition period so will be back to std after a short period. I find the x tremes a bit garish for my taste tbh and 18" tyres are cheaper.

19s are only a few pounds more expensive per tyre and the 19s are more of a common fitment now, so that helps drive the price down more.

Id keep the 19s to put back on when you sell it. Dealers are very keen to knock money off  cars that are not std. Specially with specific models like the 245

As others have said keep the original wheels to preserve the car value.

To answer your question,I do believe 17s will fit.  ET45 means they have 6mm more offset than standard, but that is not a problem IMO and will add more brake clearance.

If you get these you will need 225/45 tyres.

17s do fit, I am currently running my 17 inch Dezent TD with winter tyres.

I think the official ET number is ET49 in 17 fitment but I could be wrong.

Cyprus Spec Vrs ( MKIII ) came with 17 " Dorado Alloys as standard, I ran a set as winter wheels on my Ex 230 but they are very tight over the front brake Callipers but they do fit.

I managed to get an unused set of 18" geminis for £400 so pretty happy with that. Any recommendations on tyres?

I don't think you'll have a problem with reduced valuations for selling if you are putting on other wheels that a vrs can be ordered with.

225/40/18 is the correct size.

Depending on where you live and how bad your winters are...

If, like me, you have mild winters and can run summer tyres all year round, get Michelin Pilot Sport 4s.

If you need something a bit better for cold weather, get some all seasons, probably either Michelin Cross Climates or I was considering Vredestein Quatrac Pro

I run 17" as my winter wheels without problem. It's the same size you mentioned above with et45. Clearance around calipers is a bit tight but should be ok if inner diameter isn't stupidly low.
