I this a SE L variant?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm searching for a 1.5 TSI Octavia with leather seats and DSG gearbox and I have found one I like.

In the descriptions says SE L 2017. The alloys look different, the plastic where the gear stick seats is black instead of grey, also it has heated seats,

Can anyone tell me is this is a normal SE L?

From the advert it looks like it, yes. It’s got a whole load of options though. The wheels being one, that’s why they’re different.

Has got heated windscreen as well, I’d buy it for that option alone :)

That's really really handy. Is the heated windscreen an extra or does it come with the SE L package?

My 18 plate SE L hasn't got heated seats, front sensors and those wheels. I think mine is normal this one has added extras.

Its an extra. Part of the Winter Pack.

Would you say £13.500 is a good price for this car registered in October 2017?

AutoTrader seems to think so. I’ve no idea though.

Depends on how many miles and what condition it's in. ( all those extras are worthless in monetary terms )

If average miles then it's a good deal. I have the manual estate version, it's in showroom condition with 11,000 reg June 17 ( 17plate ) and I was being offered just over £12k. ( one Skoda dealer tried a cheaky bid of £11700 ).  My car is loaded with extras but the only one that would add any value is full leather.

It's a ridiculously low figure for a car with that level of equipment, space and low running costs but then again that's the reason I bought the car in the first place!

I haven't seen the car yet. I will be there this weekend.

The car has nearly 20.000 miles on the clock, and 2 owners.

This is my first proper car and I would like to get a fair deal.

Can you tell if this is the Active Cruise Control? Not sure if this car has this extra.

Adaptive cruise contorl would be on the second lever beneath this one, you can see there is no such thing on this first picture.

Excuse my ignorance, could it be this the ACC?

That’s one of the manual dog gear shifters.

Those seats look alcantara rather than leather to me.

Alcantara is like a premium cloth, very nice and grippier than smooth leather, but not seen as luxurious and will not be as easy to wipe clean.  I would be happy with either, both are far nicer than base cloth

Those seats are the standard ones on SE-L, leather is an option. Heated seats are good!

Value of second hand cars is simply what someone will pay for it. Just have to compare with similar cars asking price. Dealers will always haggle but don't like it and won't take you seriously if you take the ****. You have the money they want, they have the car you want, but remember it's them who's the expert negotiator and you're playing on their turf.

Isn't the black material on the sides of the suede leather? I thought these seats were half leather.

Looks like a standard SE L with heated seats & 18" wheels, check for heated screen & washer nozzles when viewing it, if it has them them it has the full winter pack.

The alcantara is nicer than leather, stops you slipping around when being EXUBERANT 😜🤪. It looks alright but, that's pretty full asking price which you need to get them down a bit on.

Tell the salesperson, optional extras add no value to a 2nd hand car, if they did the CAP (trade-in/resale) price would show it & as the salesperson knows, the CAP price doesn't increase or decrease with optional extras, only mileage & condition alter the CAP Price.

Might be the 1st proper car you've brought but, you don't need to be naive & FFS don't be afraid to walk away, you can also come back another day if you can't find another car.

Great advice.

In your opinion, what would it be the right price for this car??

Having looked up the advert I can see both front wheels are kerbed, so I would factor that into the price you offer. It’s not overpriced to start with, there are others out there asking more for cars with no options and more miles so it’s very hard, as it always is, to value used cars when you aren’t dealing with ‘book price’. Personally I’d be inclined to get it down to under £13,000 as those front wheels will let it down but I wouldn’t worry about the sticker price, so much more goes into buying a car and making a good deal. The price paid is only really comparable on a brand new car, every used car has it’s own merits and certain options will be desirable to certain people whether the book says so or not. I was very willing to pay a premium to buy a car with the winter pack and full leather seats as that’s what I really wanted. As it happened, my car was the cheapest one I could find and it happened to have those options.

Yeah, a grand off the asking price would be good but, what's your situation? Do you need a car in a hurry ? Do you have a good poker face ? As Sasha says, look over the car very carefully, find faults to use when negotiating, check the drivers seat bolster, how much wear does it have, all the plastics dash down mark easily, check them.

Does the car have a spare wheel, you won't get change from £200 for the proper wheel/inset & tools. Amount of tread left on the tyres, take a tread depth tool & be seen to use it. You wanna see the road tax category, larger wheels can alter the recorded emissions therefore, the road tax charge. The top of the rear bumper will suffer chips & scratches, stone chip across the front end too. Look down the length of bodywork to see minor defects & only in daylight.

Be prepared to leave your contact details with your best offer & walk away, if they wanna sale they'll probably move the whole grand but, it depends whom wants the sale/car most.

It’s a bit pricey.

Having just disposed of a 2016 SEL with a many nice extras and lowish miles, I’d be looking to pay at least £1,000 less at a dealer.

And much less privately.
