"Wireless SmartLink for Apple Car Play only (wired for Android Auto and mirrorlink)"

SEL has this, i think its with this you can connect android phones too. Its an option and costs money.

But its bad info. because Android users will not purchase it. Same as in my case, i did not purchased the items becuase i figured its only for Apple, but now i think that its for Android too... 😞

The Karoq seems to be getting this too now for MY21. But one thing that has got me puzzled is the voice control for MIB3 cars. As I understand it, it is activated when you say "Hi Laura". What happens when your wife is called Laura?? Can you call your car's voice assistant something else????

You say ok Laura, saying hi will do nothing already tried it lol

Change the wife, easy :D

Yeh my bad... you have to say "OK Laura" to talk to your car, so mustn't agree with your wife :)

Which could then resolve itself when she leaves you!

So just picked up my MC, also having issues with the wireless... Car should have wireless according to multiple sources and using a Pixel should also work...

I'm fiddling around, I'll report if something works or not..

The literature I got from my dealer and Skoda UKs site was pretty explicit that Apple Car Play was wireless, but not android auto (I've got the SE-L/Amundsen). Doesn't really matter to me, plug it in, keep the phones battery topped off, which innevitably gets killed running navigation anyway 😅

Yeah, i guess.

But for shorter, city trips, wireless is much more convenient, you dont have to always pull the phone.
I cant wait to install it next year :D

Or Kamiq Monte Carlo arrived two days ago here in New Zealand - Our car due to it being built after August, has the 2021 wireless Apple Carplay/Android Auto and the 2021 steering wheel (with chrome dials etc)

We have found out that wireless android auto only works with Android version 11 onwards. Wireless Apple carplay works with any iphone.

Well as you were.

I only wrote to Skoda(UK) yesterday but I have just had lengthy, informative and helpful phone call from Phil from Skoda (UK). He called me rather than respond in an email, so we could discuss the issue with my Kamiq.

As was anticipated, the Bolero unit is not as capable as the Amundsen, but the reason I cannot connect my phone to the WiFi is that Android Auto is currently only wireless on a fairly limited number of high-end relatively new Android phones. This is not the case with Apple Phones and Apple Car Play which is apparently routinely wireless enabled. The 2 Android phones I have available are relatively new, but would be described as 'budget' examples, so are not enabled for wireless Android Auto.

I am now investigating to see if a work-around is available, but in the meantime I will use a USB connection with my phone for Android Auto.

I am very grateful for the swift response from Skoda(UK) and from Phil in particular.

Stay safe.

These are the only phones atm that support Wireless Android Auto:

  • Google:
    • Pixel/XL
    • Pixel2/2 XL
    • Pixel 3/3 XL
    • Pixel 4/4 XL
    • Nexus 5X
    • Nexus 6P
  • Samsung:
    • Galaxy S8/S8+
    • Galaxy S9/S9+
    • Galaxy S20/S20+
    • Galaxy S10/S10+
    • Galaxy Note 8
    • Galaxy Note 9
    • Galaxy Note 10
  • A Google or Samsung smartphone with Android 10.0.
  • A Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, or Note 8, with Android 9.0.
  • I assume more will follow.  The entertainment system needs to have the relevant hardware to work with this, which I believe is fitted to the Bolero and the Amundsen systems.  It will probably require the latest software updates as well.  I doubt that it will be restricted to certain regions as AA is avaliable pretty much everywhere.  Probably just a time thing,

I finally got Wireless Android Auto working on my OnePlus 6 running Android 10 in our Monte Carlo. All i did was enable developer settings and it seemed to pick my phone up from then on using wireless. I also made Sure that "Wireless Android Auto" was enabled by going to Settings > Apps and notifications > Android Auto > Advanced > Additional settings in the app then enable the setting under "System" heading.

Almost, but not quite the whole story.

Android Auto only works at the higher 5GHz wifi.  ( WiFi typically runs a 2.4Ghz but make sure the phone is able to operate at 5Ghz. )

Any phone 5Ghz running Android 11 should work too. Android 11 should be rolled out in the comming months to non - Google phones.  See your phone manufacturer for details.

I've just upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy A phone running Android 10 and that integrates very well with wireless Android Auto. ( on a Kodiaq anyway )

In my experience it only works if you agree to share your location data.

You can change the level of privacy you're willing to accept here :

Depending on the level the internet radio works or not.

I sat in my 2021 Kamiq, it recognised my Pixel 3A and indicated I should initiate Android Auto.

I could find nothing on the car menu so I opened the Android Auto app on my phone and connected!

I was so surprised I phoned everyone from the car.

I had my Pixel 3A with me this morning, I got into the Kamiq Monte and the car begged me to accept Android Auto and then asked for the next phone as well!
