DSG Box question..?

Featured Replies

Hi,

apologies if this has already been asked, I had looked but couldn’t find anything related.

A bit context to my question - I’ve got a Octavia estate with the DSG box and today while parked up, some ***ker has reversed into it. Not just a tap neither, the prat was going some, it’s got a big naughty split along the bumper and bent the exhaust tip 😭. Fortunately I’ve got all his details and it’s being dealt with by the insurers now.

After just driving it home and parking up I noticed a creaking from the rear disks as I put the hand break on and got out of the car, this is something new, it was just in for a major service at Skoda🤑 end of last year and all was fine prior to this accident, so I’m assuming this has been down to the impact lurching the car forward. Then it occurred to me with it being an automatic the car was in Park while stationary, which as far as I’m aware locks the transmission. could there be possible damage to the tranny that I should be aware of and at least mentioning to my ”insurers nominated repairer” so I don’t get fobbed off with a replacement bumper. Then 6 month down the road requiring a gearbox rebuild/replacement. I’ve only got basic knowledge of the mechanics of these cars, so any help from you lads would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully it’ll all be fine and this is just me worrying over nothing 😬

Thanks!

Yes, that's right.

An insurance inspector should know about this and recommend looking at the box as part of the claim.  Worst case you tell them and they have a go for telling them how to do their job I recon.  At least you have said something.  Even better put it in an email so you have it in writing.  If they say it's fine then you have something to fall back on should it fail down the line.

I couldn't answer your question, but I reckon you would be right to raise the query, best mention to your insurers, if they are any good they will chase it up.

Thanks for the advice lads. I’ve emailed the insurer as you suggested and will see what they come back with. If they say it’s fine I’ll ask for something in writing just to be safe 😊

It never occurred to me while I was on the phone to them to mention it, and didn’t cross my mind till I heard the breaks binding. Appreciate the help, thanks! 👍
