LED Day Lights

Featured Replies

So recently purchased the entry SE model for a work car and I've noticed that when you turn the main headlights on... the LED daytime lights switch off... Is there anyway to keep these both on at the same time? Or is this something a dealership would have to take care of, or is this not possible at all?

It's against the law afaik.

I don't think that's right... There are plenty of cars on the road with both sets of lights on...

That would require the Police to both know and enforce the relevant laws...

DRL's generally dim to 'sidelight' strength.

I may not have fully understood your question @Roberts251_ and a quick look of the YouTube shows me different headlights are available so maybe it's best to await further answers from actual Karoq owners. ;)

My DRL's turn off if the main headlights are turned on. This may be something to do with the differnt light configurations. One of the modifications on my old Octavia was, using vag commander, the next level up from VCDS diagnostic tools, to have the rear side lights on permanently when the DRL's were on. This was / is, I believe, something that is the norm in Scandanavian countries. As to whether you can have DRL's and main lights on simultaneously, I don't know, as there may be a conflict of signals within the canbus system. It is possible however, to have main headlights and fog lights on simultaneously and modern lighting arrangements may look like DRL's and headlights are on simultaneously. With reference to john999boy legality point, it USED to be illegal to have both headlights and fog lights on if not foggy but some used to drive around as an image thing.

The strip DRL's don't turn off if the main headlights are turned on (full led headlights)

The daylight running lights (LED) are lit on there own or stay lit with the sidelights on, with dip/full beam headlights on they are not lit ....... in my Karoq SE.

Why do you want to keep the DRLs on when the headlights are on?

The SE DRLs are not in the headlight sidelight housing but in the foglight housing.

info

There are plenty cars with DRL's on with Dipped and Full Beam and even side light / position lights.

Some are Sidelights using the DRL's less bright like with a Fabia Mk2 vRS.

& some are just less bright as they must be than when they are DRL's.   Daytime Running Lights or more correctly if common sense prevails Daylight Running Lights.

In poor light the annoying things should be off.

The amount of tw-ats i have seen or not seen from behind this week in seriously foggy conditions with just DRL's on is unreal.

There seems to be more now in premium cars that are clueless to what lights are on, maybe they trust to 'Auto' Lights.

Complete waste of time.

DRL stands for Daytime Running Lights. They are designed to operate during daylight hours and are therefore bright in an effort to compete with the sun.

Having them on at night will dazzle.

All Karoq's have LED DRL's.

Karoq's with full LED headlights have an LED strip that runs along the bottom of the headlight. It performs the role of DRL, side light, parking light and indicator...

DRL - full brightness.

Side Light - full brightness (this is relatively new, the DRL's no longer dim in side light mode), the additional LED eyelashes also illuminate.

Parking Light - full brightness (this is relatively new, the DRL's no longer dim in parking light mode),  the additional LED eyelashes also illuminate.

Indicator - clear light output replaced with orange.

From left to right...

1) DRL.

2) Side lights and parking lights.

3) Dipped headlights.

4) Dipped headlights and high beam.

5) Dipped headlights and fog light.

On Karoq's with non-LED headlights i.e. the OP's SE the LED DRL's are in the upper section of the fog light, instead of the main headlight...

Image result for skoda karoq headlights

They do not dim, they perform the role of DRL and side light and parking light, and unlike the full LED headlights they turn off completely when the dipped headlights are on.

  • 1 year later...

I have the same question.

I have a skoda karoq with the daylights above the fog lights.

Those day lights are turning off when  I open the night driving lights.

I understand that skoda have set the lights work like that because day lights (led lights) have  different color than fog and night lights

and it would be agly running all together.

The question is if there is any way to program the day lights stay on even when the rest of lights are on?

In that case we can change the light bulbs of the night lights and fog lights to led lights with the same color like day lights and have better results.

Thank you in advance

Welcome.

?

Which country are you driving in?

Skoda were not thinking about ugly, more about the law in various countries & other road users and angry road users.

Like when someone has Daytime / Daylight lights on with Side / Position and Dipped Headlights, or with Fog's on when there is no fog,

or Fogs on with Side / Position Lights & DRL's and Dipped Beam or even Full Beam is someone manages to have Fogs and full beam on.

I thought that as DRL's throw light in every direction so it can be seen in daylight, that in the dark this would, at the very least, be annoying to other motorists.

As someone said earlier, they either extinguish, or dim when dipped beam selected. It's a safety feature. I believe its also the law.

Even those tacky Ring kits people added to older vehicles (OK I admit I wanted a set on my old car) have a relay that connects up to the lighting wires and turns off DRL's when headlights are in use.

When you see someone driving at night on DRL's because they have forgotten to switch on any lights they are dazzling. As Root said, why not just turn your fogs on and wear a baseball cap backwards*.

* I added that bit.

We have 2 cars both fitted with DRLs and halogen lights, As has been posted above, theDRLs dim either when switched to parkin/positioning/sidelights orwhen the headlights are on. With halogen lights, there is a constant risk of a bulb failing (although it hasn't happened to me) with the dimmed DRLs at least you will have some kind of light on both sides.

Recently i saw a peugeot 208 with both day light and and low beam lights.

When i say ugly i mean that the color of day lights are different from the low and high beam so skoda made the choice probably

instead of giving the car with the same color lights low-high beam fog and daylights to reduce the cost with old type bulbs on the rest of the lights.

I made this question because i see in the road other new cars that do that........thats why i believe there is no law issue and in any case this is not the issue.

Thats ok with me but i ask is someone knows a way to change that ,thats all.

I drive in Greece by the way.
