MKIII 280 Remap questions

Took a drive from the Lakes back through the A65/A660 today, some ace roundabouts to pull away from (when they're not flooded), couldn't help but wonder how the extra punch would feel from a remap when I got back home! When you remap on stage 1, did it change any of your emissions/road tax?

Road tax is fixed at the factory level which for the 7 speed DSG car (272) is 161gm/km on my hatchback which is an average of 39.8mpg. My average on the first 3 tanks before the map was 38.5mpg and 6 commutes have been between 38-40mpg so very similar post map. Emissions are directly related to fuel consumption but when being tested it just has to meet certain criteria which mine will because of the dual GPF in the exhaust system. Mine will easily pass an M.O.T. if that is what is concerning you. We are in Scotland (Perthshire) and the Lake District first week in June if anyone wants to meet up and take mine for a drive.

If you read the bumf on the stage 2 remap, APR offer a pop and crackle option to it for free (in sport mode), and that certainly appeals to me.

The crackles and pops comes from unburnt fuel which will obviously increase fuel consumption.

Centre Resonator Delete??

I love the noise of the 272 but just mustering up the courage to want to do anything to it when i get it.

Its more about off the line acceleration more than anything for me.

Noise just has to be really nice in sport mode and then die back down when cruising. Still want the car to maintain its class after all and not just be a noise machin.

Big no-no. It's already annoying in a GTI/R despite their "sportier" character, it will only be ridiculous in a L&K and bother everyone in the car partly because it's the worst part to remove for an aural improvement.
A proper rear mufflers "upgrade" is a safer option but even that is not worth it for the money over the difference it makes, in the sense that it provides maybe 20% more sportiness when you want it at full throttle, and 80% more noise everywhere as soon as the turbo spools. When I drove a Golf R with full Milltek exhaust I might have liked it for the fun during the test-drive but it was clear I wasn't ever going to be able to bear that loudness for a daily drive myself, let alone my family.

The other thing is I don't know from where people have got the idea that these engines produce an exciting sound that is only restrained by the centre resonator (!) and thus its deletion will provide the aural pleasure they have in their minds. Reality is that the 2.0 TSI is excellent at many things but the noise it makes is not one of them. In fact it's just that, noise, there's no sporty rasp or exciting high pitch that are hiding in your exhaust pipes, sorry. As I said, upgraded mufflers do a better job (although they can't magically create a really sporty engine noise) but with deleting the centre res especially, you'll get the sort of unwanted, annoying cheap noise you typically hear from badly tuned cars that are pretending they're running 2x-3x times the HP they actually run.

Indeed Journalists driving the new Audi S3 prototypes say that Audi have managed to make it sound more like the 5 cylinder RS3 rather than the normal bland 4 cylinder 2.0TSi engine sound, quite a feat using the cars actuator and speakers.

Today I spoke to Nige at BCS Powervalve about having this made for the superb. I was told they've never made one for the superb, but for 335 quid they'll do it.

Whilst I was out and about today doing a 200 mile round trip, I got home with 36.1mpg showing :)

On my travels I picked up an uprated intercooler, Jetstream ramair kit with turbo elbow and a turbo muffler delete to finish off my stage 1 attempt

Just needs fitting and the 99 fuel remap.

Sounds like your getting serious with those mods. I'm very happy with my remap, really no need to spend anymore quite quick enough thank you very much officer.

The sales guy at the workshop was itching to sell me stage 2 stuff, but I told him the apr downpipe will have to wait,

(Don't know how long i'll be able to wait though) :)

I'm about to pickup my new superb next Saturday, remap is booked for a week later.

Needless to say, I'm excited to be upgrading to a higher BHP. Will defo be looking at a stage 2 purely to squeeze it.

Where did you source all ya part, are you allowed to link in the forum's?

Mines 499 through AmD tuning. £760 does sound like a hell of a lot

It was from a place in Sheffield as that's the closest place to me and i think i read that someone on this thread had used them before. They use the APR map. I know Revo is £599 for stage 1.

There's a place in Attercliffe that does Revo remaps, but they don't even have their own website, and that put me off going there,

As I understand it, stage 2 revo remap is another 500 odd quid, but I don't mind being corrected.
