Electric window woes

Featured Replies

Hi,

My driver door electric window has started to click and not go up and down, so I bought some WD40 silicone spray and took the motor out and sprayed the runners. I tried again and it just clicks. I took the motor out and blasted the connectors with alcohol and it still clicked so I ordered a part from eBay and that clicks too. I tried the motor on the passenger side and it doesn't respond that side, I thought it might work although the gearbox is the other way around but no dice.

The clicking comes from the motor/gearbox. I've tried holding the button down to see if I could reset it but that doesn't work either.

I'm stuck now as I have no idea what to do next. Does anyone have any idea?

Either the winder gearbox or the regulator on that window has broken. It needs a physical inspection to tell which and I'm more or less at the opposite end of the UK!

Although it sounds like a faulty motor, have you tested the switch itself is not faulty, too. The drivers door switch might be quite different to the passengers side set up. The single biggest fault on these cars window/mirror/ central locking electric is usually damaged wires in the door loom, inside the bellows. Worth inspecting them, too.

Well, FWIW I'm presuming that the clicking sound means the motor is turning over but not driving the glass up and own.

I found this today:

I looked at the motor and indeed it was fouled up, I'll see if I can clean the copper windings and put the motor back together and see if that resolves the issue.
