Temp sensor problem

Featured Replies

Hi, my old trusty Felicia 1.6 MPI (AEE) has has not been feeling well lately.

The first start from cold works OK, but after that it has been hard to start and the engine runs very rich.

I got my hands on a ODB cable and VCDS-Lite, and hooked it up and did some tests.

- "Coolant temp" in group 001 went between 7º (cold) och 18º (warm)

According to VCDS it should be between 85 - 110º

- "Air intake temp" i group 002 went between - 40º (cold) och 17º (warm) at a outside of 5º.

According to VCDS it should be between 17 - 70º

I ordered a new temp sensor (the one located under the thermostat housing) for a AEE engine.

When i removed the old sensor i noticed that the old one had an yellow ring, and the new one had a blue ring...

Whatever, i fitted the new sensor and the engine started fine and did run as normal.

During the first testrun I noticed that the temp gauge was higher than normal, so hooked up VCDS again and noticed that the "Air intake temp" was around 88 – 90º and the "Coolant temp" only had increased to 18º? The radiator fan did not run, and I guess that the ECU is a Magnet Marelli.

I have two questions:

  • Did i get the wrong temp sensor, a blue instead of a “yellow one”?

  • Where is the “Coolant temp” sensor located?

Best regards

Yes. Part number should be 6U0919501B. Yellow collar.

Sensor is replaced and it's back to it's previous glory.

Besides the normal rust and shabby panit.

Thanks for the reply Ricardo. 👍
