fuse box has wired connection to 14

Featured Replies

Hi

Have discovered a wired part of the fuse box, not sure if it has been altered in anyway as the wire is in front of the car control pedals with it attached to another wire colour. So here are some pictures. The number of the fuse location is 14 -, description: control unit for automatic gear box. but the car has a manual gearbox.

car type is Octavia mk2 2010 tsi vrs.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Someone has added that.

At a guess it's either towbar electronics, a tracker or a dashcam power source 🙂

That tapping wire is a fire risk and should be removed. If the functionality is to retained then the wire needs to be fused either by using a fused tapping fuseholder or an in-line fuse holder with a fuse no greater than the current rating of the wire.

At present that wire is unprotected.

Fuses are not there to protect the load but to protect the wiring. In your picture, the wire is supplied by a 30A fuse (or higher) upstream. A high load on that low current rated red wire will result in it overheating, melting of its insulation and could cause a fire before the 30A fuse blows.

Typo fixed

Disconnect it and see what stops working.

Looks like bare conductor to me as it disappears under the dash, I would be disconnecting that immediately

Aftermarket stereo? Looks like a switched feed to something.

Thank you for the advice everyone. Greatly appreciated. After reviewing the concerns of the feedback I have disconnected and not going to reconnect and it doesn't seem to affect anything at all, and it leads up to the stereo head unit. Not sure what they all do but I saw that there is a breakage on one of the wires, going to wrap that with the tape. So I have completely removed the connection to the unit in the mean time as other stuff doesn't look as it should.  So going to get it sorted out with the garage after the lock down and when shops open back up again. Thanks for all your input and advice. Here are some images on it.

Kind Regards

Keep an eye open on the battery voltage for the next few days, you might have a parasitic discharge now.

Is it a standard Skoda headunit as that wiring behind it certainly isn't stock.

If the headunit is standard, it looks like there might be an aftermarket bluetooth kit somewhere and that is probably the switched ignition feed.

There has been an aftermarket head unit in the past it seems after inspecting, and the head unit as of now is the standard one. And for the battery etc, it has been checked and is all in good order.
