Did anybody installed stiffer anti roll bars and does it affect ride comfort for daily drive?

You'll only notice stiffer anti roll bars when cornering hard.

  • All skodas stance is too high. I also lowered my normal suspension with coilovers but not too much because I don't like it too low, for me this is how normal octavia should look from factory:

Lowered on Eibach pro with DCC for approx 30000km now, no regrets at all from me. Handling is great and I think it looks alright too.

You can lower a car with DCC but the system technically needs calibrating afterward and that’s not commonly done. Spacers are fine, I run 20mm front and 25mm rear spacers on my car with the Xtreme’s a

No experiance with them, I was reading that it affects more on rough surface transfering shock from side to side.

Strictly speaking yes, but you'll notice having stiffer arbs when you're cornering, as you'd get less body roll

Well with coilovers it is lowered, ride comfort is OK, but still there is some bodyroll, coilovers I don't want to adjust to stiffer because it will affect ride comfort so next step it would be ARB's.

In theory then, putting stiffer arbs would be what you're after.

All the suspension components do work hand in hand though. It would be no good having the bump setting too low and having stiff arbs, as your car is still going to wallow around corners.

Any suggestion to which arbs to go? Adjustables or not?

Most are adjustable, 2 or 3 settings usually. Depends on the make and thickness.

You still need some bodyroll to generate the grip. Look at how BTCC cars move around when flicking side to side warming tyres up. They have suspension travel and body roll. Nonppint having a car that is too stiff as you will just slip off the road.

You might find that by uprating the damper to a Bilstein B6 and keep the std springs would work better than fitting an arb.

Yeah, that's at the extreme end of the scale.

Potentially on the road, if you have too stiff arbs and too much bump stiffness on the front axle, it will induce understeer if you're having a spirited drive. It's a balance between driving comfort and driving agility. If you have a set up which is ideal for comfort, you will feel movement and be unsettled if you drive fast. Then on the opposite side, setting it up for agility, you'll find you'll notice every bump and undulation in the road.

This is by no means a perfect representation of real life (but it does show you the effects), but having a mess round on Forza with all the various suspension settings does help with knowing what does which to the car. That, however, is all in the aid of winning a race. I, when driving a fwd car, will always adjust it to have oversteer tendencies.

I have H&R springs, 19s, whiteline rear anti roll bar and a front upper strut brace. Handles a lot better now but it's still no go kart, but that's not why I bought it.

Ride was only marginally worse with the suspension mods, most detrimental thing I did was put 19s on, ha. Roll bar and brace make absolutely zero difference to ride quality, but massive difference to turn in.

I don't think i've ever had a car that's not been lowered since 2000 :)

You'd need to stiffen the rear up / loosen the front

whiteline rear from Awesome with discount if you join the MQB owners FB group - £150

Strut brace £85 posted, £75 if you managed to get on the group buy on FB.

Miles better and lot less understeer - but you'll never completely eliminate it on these things ha. VAG trait it seems

Where is your strut brace from?

The group buy strut braces we have from fb are coming from strut brace uk :)

Indeedy

For the moment I just adjusted damping of front coilovers, from 7 to 9 clicks, rear retained 7 and I already see benefits in reduced understeer and more comfort ride.

So it is correct that FWD cars must have softer front end.

And it continues with Octavia4

No problem with 2 adults in the back, a boot full of gear and a 5.5 meter rib behind it. I’m spaced 25mm on the back.

SashaGrace, When you got your wheel spacers from Watfields engineering on eBay, which ones did you go for? I’m going to get 15mm for the front and 20mm for the rear. They’re advising to ensure I have the correct hub spigot before purchasing. How do I find out what the hub spigot is on my car? I have 19’s on my car. And, I presume the spacers for VW and Audi are for Skoda too? As I can’t seem to find Skoda specific spacers when I search it on eBay under Watfields.

Thank you 👍

5x112 57.1 centre bore, all VAG group ones are the same, can be Golf, A3 etc. Mine are 20/25 but I’d go 15/20 or 15/25 if you don’t need the space or you don’t want the wheel right on the edge of what fits.

Hi lads and ladies, quick question. I got my H&R 40mm springs the other day and there’s the 4 springs in the box (obviously) and these two yellow rubber bungs. Is that all that should be in the box or am I missing anything? What are these rubber bungs for? Just wondering. I bought them off eBay from a crowd called TunerShop (a German company).

My buddy from work is fitting them and he’s just curious as he has never fitted these springs before (he is a mechanic though).

They are the bump stops for the struts on the front. That’s all that should be in the box.

Cool beans. Not a bother.

I’ve also realised I might have made a boo boo 🤦‍♂️ I got the part 28833-3, I thought that fits all vrs estates but when I was looking up about the components in the box it says that part is for the 4WD models and I think now I should have bought the 28833-1 or 28833-2 parts. Can’t the -3 parts not be used on my 2WD vrs? What is the difference in them do ye know?

Feck it anyway 🤦‍♂️

strut brace - reduces chatter going round bumpy corners - subtle effect

upgraded arbs - brilliant improvement in handling. you should consider fresh droplinks too as mine both failed probably due to the extra stress through cornering a bit quicker

bilstein shocks and lowering springs - work well with the upgraded arbs and not overly harsh ride compared with stock vrs. they just work.

upgraded dogbone insert to reduce wheelhop - increased NVH but well worth it as minimal wheel hop in the wet now

michelin pilot sport 4 tyres - excellent in dry, good in wet

shortshifter - feels better with much shorter throw

i've probably enjoyed the handling upgrades as much as, if not more than a remap
