Heated Front Screen/Winter pack

Featured Replies

Hi All

Picking up my new used Octavia VRS Mark 3 this week. Very excitied as had always toyed with the idea of getting one. I used to own a Monte Carlo Fabia and loved it!

When looking i only wanted a car with heated seats, however i have since found out about a winter pack (heated seats, washers and front screen)

Were the heated seats available as on option on their own or did you have to order all 3 as a winter pack? Just wondering if my new car having heated seats will have heated front screen? where is the button for it?

I have heated front screen on my current Volvo and i do use it quite a bit so would be good if it has!

any help appreciated

You could get the heated seats on their own but not the screen. If you wanted the screen you had to get the seats, washers and screen as a ‘winter pack’.

The button for the heated screen is in the middle of the centre rotary dial of the climate controls.

You'll love the winter pack on cold and icy days or if you are soaked to the skin, the heated seats are gorgeous and they're also great if you have a bad back. 🤗

The screen is usually clear of ice in 90s.

Some people don't like heated windshield due to glare on a sunny day.

If I'd been buying new, I think the Winter Pack is the only option I'd have wanted to add. I had heated seats in my Mk2.5 and I do miss them in my current car. Heated front screen would also be a god send.

However, as someone above said - might be worth a test drive on a sunny day as there is a glare that some people notice. Also try with your regular sunglasses as that can sometimes make the issue worse.

I wear reactolite specs and I have no trouble with the wires in the windscreen, you soon learn to ignore them as you do any glare.

I'm used to it as all the trains I drive (apart from the really old one's) have electrically heated screens with the fine wires in them.

Just saying that people know how it looks and works, before they buy it, where I live I don't need it so I've skipped it and my friend have it and hates it, but he couldn't choose.

I think there may have been some different versions of heated screen, some better than others. Mine (MY20) is perfect with no visual interference.

Exactly, my previous Yeti had the wires in the screen type and the wires never caused me a problem (as you look through the screen not at it) but there were a few reports of owners having real problems with this type or screen for some reason.

My current Kodiaq has the film type heated screen and doesn’t have any wires in the screen.

I had a bit of glare when driving at night with the heated screen -- I got used to them after a while

I was always thinking that it was infrared heating, or it exists on other brands?

heated screen is brilliant on a frosty morning. heated seats are a must too in my opinion. screen was a nice bonus.

Heated steering wheel was also for me first and from now a must.

Same on other brands - thin almost translucent heating wires.

Screen and seats are a must. Also a heated steering wheel is good. Specially after a night shift when its been cold. Push button and instantly warm hands. Unfortunately I dont have a heated steering wheel on my current car.

Got all of them on my car, it's about the only good thing about it.

Not far from true😂

They'll be the same people who have cold hands scraping the windshield and trying to demist it with little portholes on short drives. The newer versions like on my Superb and Golf don't have the elements in....even though the drivers who complain about seeing the thin elements, should be looking at the road ahead, not the thin wires 60cm in front  of them. Skoda definitely does better activation screen than VW, which makes you access the screen through the infotainment....so you have to take your gloves off to do it.

The other feature of having a heated windscreen which no one so far seems to have mentioned is that it's also linked to the car's climate control and doesn't just trigger on cold, frosty mornings.  The system cleverly detects if there's any condensation/mist on the inside of the windscreen and auto demists the screen.  Takes circa 30 seconds but is a godsend if you've parked up briefly to get a paper or a coffee with two damp Dalmatians in the boot.  Frequently come back to a very misted up car and the screen is clear to drive away in moments.

Or alternatively, these will be the people who have driven or used a car with a heated front windscreen and decided that the glare or thin wires are a problem.

Seems odd you'd think the only people complaining about that would be people who don't have a heated front windscreen.

What's odd and what's your point? I gave a POV based on ownership.

Used to have a heated screen in the old car. I used it probably two-three times in nearly four years of ownership - aux heating is far more effective. And the wires were annoying even at the end, especially at night. I don't miss that this car doesn't have it.

Heated wheel is nice but it takes too long to get up to heat. I've disconnected it from the seat heating as I want that on for about 2 minutes on the lowest setting and then the wheel on the highest for many minutes more, especially if i've only run the Webasto for 10 minutes as it will be a short drive and it's -15 outside.

Heated washers is something I've never seen the value in. If it's that cold that it's useful, it's going to freeze anyway if you didn't do a good job on the alcohol content.

IMO\experience the wires are far more defined in non OEM screens, always insist on genuine and there won't be any issue.

I can see what looks to be the zig-zag lines in my windscreen, but I don't have the heated windscreen option.

Could this be a case of they included the wires with every windscreen, or its possibly been replaced before my ownership with an incorrect spec'd one?

I could never understand how Ford could apparently have a patent on the technology when it's been used in railway locomotives for many decades.
