New Karoq - question on some issues

Featured Replies

Hi all

I just received my brand new Karoq and need your input on the following.

1. The car boot when closed is not firmly aligned - the dealer told me this is how it is (see photo)

2. There are obvious paint job deficiencies - I guess Skoda was in a hurry to deliver after the shut down.

3. There is a rubber extending on the rear right light

Seems that there was zero post production AND pre-delivery inspection.

I would take it back immediately. God knows how many other issues it has under the bonnet...

Good luck to you.

Also tell them you will be rejecting it should they not resolve the obvious faults, also fire off an email or phone Skoda UK.

Hope that helps

Employees at that Dealership need training or retraining or actually the boot.

That will be the person that accepted the car off the transporter, the technician or fitter that did the PDI, the person that did the polishing for the handover,

the salesperson and the muppet that told the OP 'this is how it is'.

It is how it is, actually terrible.

Best find out if they are saying 'As left the factory',  or 'as is after transit damage repair carried out'.

So to other people owning a Karoq - does the boot door close firmly and aligned?

We have no problem opening and closing the boot on our Jan 2018 registered Karoq but there is a small alignment issue where it meets the bumper on the near side (left as you look at it) but it has never bothered me enough to attempt a fix.

yes the boot opens and closes just fine. it's the alignment I am concerned with as the photo I attached. just wondering if this is by design (as it's aligned from that point upwards).

my guess is the boot alignment can probably be sorted by adjusting the 'rubber bump stops' at the corners?

since its aligned until one point, wouldnt that mean that adjusting the bump stops wont work?

possibly not- you'd have to try it.  The alignment in the picture seems to get worse lower down so adjusting the rubbers should help that as they will push the bottom out whilst the top hinge remains in the same place.  Also adjusting them will probably mostly push the corner out depending how the panel flexes and not the entire boot lid.

OK - the thing is, stock photos online show a similar picture to the one I see. e.g.:

Looking at the photos, the boot lid alignment should the least of your worries.

My boot is exactly like yours. Only really noticed it when I was washing the car. I have the electric boot - perhaps it's something to do with that?   Easy answer is just look at another Karoq - any supermarket carpark will do :D   If you have an electric boot, just make sure the car you check has one too but I think that's how it's designed.

As for the paint and rubber seal ?  Wow !!!!    No I don't have anything like that.  Did you check the car before leaving the dealership and make them aware of it?  Don't know about laws in other countries but contacting Skoda at this stage would be over dramatic here in the UK. The car is obviously faulty so the dealer should have a chance to recify it.

Again here in UK we are able to reject cars but only in certain circumstances ( some people think you can reject car and walk away for the slightest problem ). The rubber should be an easy fix for the dealer but that paint job?  personally I'd be rejecting the car. If quality control missed something as obvious as that I'd be worried about what else they missed.

I think we ned to know where loukitsas lives and bought his car before rushing to give legal or consumer advice. Could you add this information to your profile please loukitsas to make any advice we give you more relevant to your situation?

My brand new Karoq seems pretty aligned. Pictures attached

Is that an electric boot?

No, it’s the manual one.

So if loukitsas is Bulgarian (?) quoting UK consumer rights to him isn't going to be much help!

Well... Judging from the reactions in this thread, paint issues like the photos posted by loukitsas are not a frequent occurrence, right?

And where are you from too mariossoc?? It would help us to help you all if you complete your profiles!

Same here, the boot when closed is not firmly aligned in my car.

I am wondering if the car has been damaged and repaired prior to delivery. Maybe an enquiry at the dealer is in order.

Already mentioned in post 4 above, but OP seems strangely more preoccupied with the rear hatch alignment rather than the paint/ potential damage issues.

Ah yes, sorry I missed that post. Seems the most likely scenario to me as I really can't believe Skoda's factory QC is that poor.
