I recall the fuel flap refusing to open at a pump in Stalham, darkest Norfolk. An Audi driver at the adjacent pump advised me to open and shut the car door, lock it from the key, then open it again, then try the fuel flap again ............. and it worked - phew! However, on subsequent fills, sometimes the fuel flap behaved, and sometimes it refused to open. Over the next few months, it became so unreliable that I took it to the dealer - who promptly changed the solenoid. It's been ok ever since.

I had a variation of this on New Year’s Eve 2025, fuel flap was jammed half closed but also wouldn’t open, Dealer opened it while I waited and then booked it in to be fixed under warranty. The cover plate slides off and then with plastic trim tools it’s possible to remove the mounting plate but the filler cap has to be unscrewed somehow to release the mounting plate.

The fuel filler flap wouldn't open on my wife's MY23 Karoq today.

FWIW, I tapped it a few times and it suddenly opened. Tried it three times and it kept doing it. Seemed to be just 'sticky' rather than secured shut if that makes sense. Will have a proper look and fiddle tomorrow when I have more time.

I spray my actuatorwith a silicone spray every month now just to keep it well lubricated.

This is the first time this has happened on either of our cars but Sue's is used very infrequently so doesn't get topped up often.

Going to give both a scoot forthwith 😊

By the way, following up on my earlier post, as the fuel filler flap gradually became less and less reliable, I tried squirting it with silicone spray. Not sure if it actually delayed its demise but, in the end, I got the solenoid fixed before the warranty ran out.

Bizarrely it was silicone spray that seemed to cause my filler flap problem. It was very reluctant to open 3-4 taps each time so I spray the hinge and actuator, pressed that in and out a few times to check it was working ok, closed that flap and it jammed partially closed.

Just simply press the fuel flap rear side. No release from inside all manual from the outside
