Everything modern on a modern car is expensive to replace.

Even if you dislike modern tech do not be put off. After 6 Skodas ranginging from Fabia through Superb to Kodiak, it is a great vehicle. Easy entry, well furnished, comfortable ride, swallows large volume of luggage and reasonably economical. Sounds like a sales brochure but that is my experience. Local rural dealer is customer focused and helpful when needed (not often). No experience of towing. Now the tech is great, steers itself, slows down and speeds up automatically, both great when driving in Europe. Parks itself in small spaces at the press of a button and a couple of human inputs, i.e. engage reverse or forward and apply a little throttle. If  you value fingers keep clear of steering wheel it moves as fast as an aeroplane propeller. What is not to like. Colour maybe?

The SE is great value, but if you're planning to keep this as long as the Fabia I'd strongly recommend going for an SE L, for the LED headlights alone.

ive been looking daily to see whats about

quick question for you, would you pick an SE Edition, 2017, with 40k on the clock, or a 67 plate SE with 15k on the clock (extras i can see are heated seats, windscreen, and washer jets), both are the same price

I've not heard of an SE Edition, there's an SE or Edition. Did you mean the SE Drive?

Assuming you meant just Edition I'd go with that over the SE. Some nice options on the SE but as nice as the heated seats and windscreen are unless the SE also has the LED headlights then it would have to be the Edition for me.

Yea sorry I just meant Edition

I think you pays your money etc.

SE is better value

SEL is the better spec

Is the £3000 worth it?      Probably not in terms of a 10-15% hike in the asking price.

BUT- The LED headlights are miles better than those on the SE

The car looks "nicer" with the chrome surrounds and inside improvements.  Just feels a bit more classy imo.

The seats, a pain to clean maybe but they look smarter and you don't move as much

19" wheels fill the arches better (and still look a little small!).

If you keep the car for 10 years, are the above worth £300 a year?  Only you can decide that.

Heated seats, keyless entry, power tailgate imo are next to worthless (others may disagree).

power tailgate not bothered about, same for keyless entry, but the heated seats i do want

ive spotted another Edition model so got my eye on that at the moment, slightly higher mileage than the other but should be about £1k cheaper

I may be wrong but I think Edition have leather seats as standard.  That is a deal breaker for me....

The Edition does indeed have leather seats as standard. If it helps, the seats are not at all slippery, in fact they grip very well. But I can totally understand why some people love them, some hate them, seems to be a fairly binary thing. Mrs loves them because just enough 'slip' to make it easier for her to get in/out, whereas the alcantara seats in the SEL are very 'grippy'. Depending on age of Kodiaq, you can have any colour of leather seats you like, as long as that colour is, er, black: only more recent cars had the option of non-black.

i wouldnt pick leather, but if the rest of the car is right, and they are heated, i dont think it would put me off

do all 'Edition' have a camera system that shows all around the car, im sure ive seen pics on some listings where it looks like you can see all around the exterior on the radio screen

The leather seats on the Edition are heated (but best check with the dealer - these things change, it seems). Regarding the area view....Don't think this was standard - it was on the options list (and an expensive one too) when I ordered our car last October, so didn't choose it

Glad I haven't got full leather seats as it was 32.5C when I got into my Black Superb at 6pm tonight.

The wife's 2018 Karoq SEL has nice alcantara sport heated front seats. Just a thought and the interior quality is superior to the Kodiaq if you look closely and nearly a match for my 2019 Superb.:)

Well I do have full leather seats, and in this heat, the fact they're ventilated means they're an absolute joy - lovely and cool. 😁😁

Once owning a car with ventilated leather, I’ll never own a car with full leather without ventilated seats!

Having experienced leather seats in the past I've always actively avoided it since.  Maybe vented might be better but I've never yet found a leather seat I like or can put up with for some reason.

what is a ventilated leather seat exactly

Fans inside the seat keeps you cooler by circulating air across your skin through the perforated leather. Super good in hot humid days - feels cooler than my Alcantara after 5 mins or so.

is this something that all Edition have ?

Brun, no, ventilated seats are an optional extra

I am on the look out for a new (used) car, and I think the Kodiaq fits the bill, but I would like some owner opinions

I currently have a Fabia vRS which I have owned for about 10 years, but I have some cash saved up, and we need something a lot bigger, we try and go camping as much as we can through the year, and im hoping at least 1 trip to Scotland each year during the winter. The rest of the year my commute to work isnt far, so im thinking petrol is a must, im looking at the 1.4 petrols, 4x4, 6 spd manual. I like the idea of some mild 4x4 ability as some of the camp sites we visit are steep muddy fields, in fact we have just come back from one today, and the bottom half of the field was full, the top half near empty, as most cars couldnt get up the hill without just wheel spinning. Im under no illusion that this car isnt a proper off road vehicle, but I would like something that can handle mud and snow better

Ive looked at the Suzuki Vitara, but the boot isnt big enough, the Mini Countryman is an option, but really, we need a bigger boot.

Most of the ones im looking at, seem to be SE spec, can someone point out the main differences between the other spec's, do they all have sat nav. bluetooth, dab, reverse camera ?

Massive boot in the 7 seater, but the 5 seater must be even bigger. They're great to own & drive, whatever the spec, all depends on your budget. Haven't owned a petrol car for years, all turbo diesels for over 30 years, mainly Citroens, but over 10 years of more recent Octavia estate, couple of Yetis & now a Kodiaq 150ps 4x4 dsg Edition with a few options like pan roof. Biggest drawback compared to the Yeti is that the rear seats can't be removed, but given that it's a big car anyway, not a major issue for us. Had a test in a Karoq before deciding on the big bear (known as Yogi in the family), similar drive & specs but a bit smaller overall. I believe that the Kodiaq is now only available as a 7 seater, if that's not correct, someone will put me right, I'm sure?

Like all Skodas, easy to drive & use on a daily basis, many of the parts  in common with my son's Seat Alhambra,  we can swap cars & feel instantly at home.

All the controls are intuitive & one doesn't have to reset driving parameters after every start which I believe is a feature of many marques.

One thing that annoys me is that when muting the radio, it doesn't come back to the original setting when un-muting, it reverts to zero sound & has to be dialled back up.

No real snow last winter so never got to test the 4x4 capability, but been in & out of several muddy forests & never had traction issues. 4x4 not really essential, a front driver with good winter tyres can be just as effective.

Internal fit & finish is excellent, no rattles or squeaks on a car nearly 2 years old with just 11k miles on the clock. Due an oil & filter service soon. Won't ask my guy to change the cabin filter just yet, it's a real beggar to get to, way under the dash on passenger side, but he's young & agile.

Hope this info helps & good luck with your search.

You don’t give you’re location, but when I look there’s plenty choice of SEL, and Edition models with around 30k miles or under for under £20k on Autotrader and Skoda used car search.
