  • Strange purchase decisions. You downgraded from a Superb to a Karoq and now downgraded to a Kamiq?? A Kamiq is a tiny tin can compared to a Superb.

thanks. it has genuinely surprised me as to how good it is. feels sophisticated and friendly at the same time. feel as comfortable and at home as in my last 3 series touring back in 2017, and that's real praise indeed

Thanks, the gadgets are really good, but i soon disconnected the lane assist, horrible device that immediately becomes annoying. Fine if you sleep at the wheel all the time I suppose!

You cannot disconnect its linked to other things  might be able to one day only comes on after 37mph does not bother me wen it happens I just pull it back or hold i turned of vibration that did do my head in. Its the only way they got 5 star ncap rating.

"In a forum that I follow it has been said that the Skoda Kamiq achieved an NCAP rating of 5 because of the vehicle's lane assist function.

This has intervened whilst I was driving on a number of occasions but it was always in error.

I was almost diverted into a ditch on a country lane on the first occasion. The road surface had no markings and I was driving straight ahead at the time. It was very frightening.

This is not a safety feature and is at best inconvenient and at worst downright dangerous."

If there is a black tar line that is shiny it thinks that is a white line

I think you're right. I already immediately double click on the wheel option buttons to disable as soon as I set off. After 51years at the wheel I think i have managed nicely without hitherto, regards Steve

And if I had been passing a cyclist or a hiker (lots of them where I was on a moorland road at the time), it would have been nasty.

But you would have not been passing them at more than 37 mph?

Ah but and what if 🙂. The fact is that I was momentarily surprised and the car veered very slightly and in my book that is not a safety feature.

Why not? Speed is important when overtaking in order to return to lane as soon as possible. The distance from the overtaken vehicle is important so a device that decides to steer you towards it is dangerous.

Picked up my new Kamiq 1.5tsi dsg four days ago. love it already, so far, so much lighter and more responsive than the Karoq, loads of space, quiet , very smooth and already 47mpg. My twelfth Skoda and hope it will be equal to the others ( octavia, vrs, superb/ estate karoq etc)

How do you find the driving height compared with the Karoq? The one thing that is putting me off the Kamiq is the low drivers seat height. I am used to a Yeti which has a much higher driving position so that I can just “slide-in” , when I tried a Kamiq in the showroom I felt like I was sitting down into the driving seat. Do you notice much of a difference because the Karoq is noticeably taller than the Kamiq?

The way I imagined the suggested scenario of overtaking a cyclist or hiker on a moorland road, the road would be narrow and the overtaken "vehicle"  would be moving very slowly, and a bit of caution might be more appropriate than outright speed. On catching up with the hiker or cyclist you might slow down a bit while checking that the road conditions ahead were safe for overtaking, so you would probably (I imagined) be doing less than 37 mph by the time you were overtaking and the lane assist would not be active.

In over 4 years of driving the Octavia Scout with lane assist I have not found this feature to be that intrusive, and steering decisively will always override it, but of course it might be a bit different in newer models like the Kamiq or Karoq.  The main reservation I have about lane assist is that you can't rely on it to be active when you might need it, as it depends on the presence and quality of the white lines on the road.

My start up is  engine on lane assist off, stop/start off. This takes only about 10 seconds whilst I wait for the information screen to load up to confirm what I've done, Then off we go. My Kamiq is my first Skoda and I loved it at first sight, haven't driven any Skoda before and even with my niggling water in the doors issues, I'm really happy with it.

If only I could even see "my" Kamiq, I'd be happy.

It took far too long for the dealer to supply a reg.no. I have two parking permits which are vehicle specific and both organisations need at least a week to amend them.

Got that sorted after threatening to cancel. Arranged motor insurance - I know Skoda provide 5 days free but I've been an insurance broker for 40 years so happier to do it myself - and GAP cover.

With less than 24 hours to changeover, receiving the news that the dealer didn't know the whereabouts of my car was not a happy time. They did find it but it had been shipped to Wiltshire instead of Buckinghamshire.

It is allegedly on its' way and they have taken my Citigo in p/ex and loaned me a very nice Scala diesel DSG but are now re-registering the Kamiq with a new 70 plate because it won't be delivered before 1st September so I have had to cancel my insurance and permit arrangements as I still don't know what the reg will be.

As I mentioned, having been in insurance broking for 40 years, I really thought that I had seen the worst communication and administration possible (I also spent a few years in the Civil Service) but this lot have them well beaten.

If it does turn out to be as nice as - hopefully better than - the Scala I will eventually be happy but just now I'm as stressed as I ever want to be. My GP says that I should avoid conflict and stress. Yeah, right!

That sounds like a real logistics **** up! I'm sure you won't judge the quality of your car on it. I hope when you get your Kamiq your stress will turn to joy!

The Skoda free insurance does not include business use. This is standard on this policy type. Also, as I mentioned, as an insurance professional, I prefer to make my own arrangements because then I know it's been done right.

Hi. apologies for delay in replying to this, new to Briskoda site. I get on fine with the access / egress, and it normally is a problem for me. Only 5ft 9 but with a relatively new hip replacement and fused spine, seating and seat height is very important. Once seat height set correctly for me, easy with electric seat option, absolute breeze to get in and out and I find I'm more comfortable in the Kamiq. The slightly lower driving position feels much nicer and less ponderous, and placing / manoeuvring really telepathic. I love it to drive, smooth very quiet and today, just returned from a 80km round trip including stop start in a local market town and averaged 50.2 mpg. And that's with a tight engine, the very best I got from the Karoq with the same set up mechanically was 44mpg. Really think I've done the right thing. Hope this helps. regards Steve

Thanks, I will have to take a test drive with my wife in the passenger seat, she has problems with her back and getting out of lower cars is a real problem. Focus, Golf, Astra etc.

Also going to have a look at the new Peugeot 2008 which has had some good reviews.

Otherwise the Kamiq is really attractive and can be had with all the extras I like, including electric seat, heated windscreen and leather interior in light colour. Conundrum!

I'm 5'6" with arthritic knees and I found no trouble getting in and out. The Scala loan car I have now is a bit low, despite which I keep banging my head on a roof thing to do with emergency calls

Could I please ask you to keep us informed?  Kamiq is high on my list of possible replacements for Yeti when the time comes.

Other attractions of Kamiq are:

1) It will just squeeze past the open doors of my garage.

2) I can specify a fixed glass roof.

S models have 16" wheels.  I wonder if Skoda UK would still arrange special builds of 16" wheels on SE models (17" wheels) and SEL models (18" wheels)?

HI there, Mine has the fixed panoramic roof but i miss the opening glass roof of the Karoq.  runs on 18" crater alloys, ride is lovely and supple with good degree of feel, but temper this with the knowledge we barely have  a single pothole over here so road conditions as I remember them in the uk may make choosing 17's a better choice if you value ride. really easy to place on the road and barely notice the difference on luggage space.  the dsg box is lovely but i miss the steering wheel paddles to retain gearchange control at its easiest, but rarely need to come out of auto as the ratios are nicely spaced. If you value comfort highly, must say this is just about spot on whilst still being nice and feelsome to drive. I really cannot speak to highly of the car, and it lives up to the other skoda's I've had ( many) in terms of quality and finish. I wouldn't think twice about anything else. regards Steve
