My 2015 Superb II safety recall 97DR

I've just had this safety recall - apparently if a front turn indicator fails the fault may not show up on the instrument panel. This doesn't look too serious. Annotingly I have to take the car back to a Skoda dealer for a software fix. Takes an hour. Anyone had it done?

I've had the same notification. Tempted to ignore it and pretend I'm driving a BMW!

Yes I too have had the letter. Don't really want to take mine in as it has not had the emissions software fix done and I don't want the potential hassle it may bring.

I haven't had the emissions fix, either, my choice. I suspect that, if I take the car back to the dealer they will do a general software update and "fix" everything, which I don't want. Cynical part of me wonders whether this recall only went to owners who hadn't had the emission fix done. So I'm ignoring the recall while keeping an eye on the indicators! Local garage does an excellent servicing job. My Superb is an estate, 2015 SEL 170 DSG. Great car, after decades of BMWs.

My 2014 Superb was in in June for a service, they did the recall on the indicators but not the emission fix, they know I do not want that done, so they can just do the safety recall.

I have zero trust in the Gloucestershire / Bristol  Skoda dealers so if i get the notice it will be ignored.

I have a good relationship with my Dealer, Des Winks in Scarborough, excellent people to deal with.. I have two cars, they look after both and always tell me I have declined the emission fix before I have chance to say... 

 

SO when the Superb was in they just did the recall on the indicators.. When they mentioned it I did say about the emissions and they said no, nothing to do with that :)

Re  Dealership for Servicing and Maintenance and Safety Recalls.

 

When you put your car in write on the sheet that the Service Desk person has you sign after they go out and check your car / wheels for damage and take photos, 

that.

  If they do any un-authorised work on your vehicle like an Emissions Fix then they are going to be buying the car at Market Value.

Have the Employee sign that and take it to the Dealer Principal to be signed.

I don't have much confidence in my local dealers - and don't they get a financial reward for each emissions "fix"? I'm planning on ignoring this advice. Thanks for your feedback, though, interestingly diverse range of responses!

And if you are rich you can try taking them to court to honour the signed agreement. you will lose.

Yes of course you would.  But at least they were told.

 

They do not like it up them. 

Like borrowing  their demonstrator or courtesy car and giving it a remap and taking it to a track day or the drag strip.

I got the letter yesterday from Skoda and I did have the emissions fix done as soon as it was notified years ago. I don't mind having the indicator fix done if it would only take an hour trouble is from my experience Skoda workshops rarely if at all meet the timescales they say and once they have your car you are knackered. Might call my local garage that does all the servicing of my Superb and see if he has access to the fix as he uses a device to check all the electronics when it is serviced and can remap it if you want that too (I didn't).

Also got the Safety Recall 97DR - software update for body control letter. My issue is that my nearest garage (Specialist Cars Aberdeen) aren't answering their phones. I assume they are still shut-down after Aberdeen become a new COVID cluster and went into lock-down. 

 

Can anyone comment on how important, if at all, the update is? I.e. can it wait a while?

If you check your indicators work occasionally, you'll be fine.

 

Just don't rely on the car to warn you an indicator bulb has failed

Trusty local garage tells me they can't do it - safety reprogramming has to go to dealers. Will live with it. Dealers are an inconvenient distance and as others say can't be totally relied on to do exactly what you want. Good to have a range of responses!
