Perhaps it's only available via the Drive Mode menu then? But it does have to be 4x4 not 2x4 so are the SE pics 4x4s??

Or perhaps it's NOT standard on the SE! The latest price & spec list shows Drive Mode Select as an option for the SE and SE Drive, and only becomes standard from SE L upwards. Older cars may be different I suppose, but forum owners would have to advise you on that. 😞

looks like from that manual, that it has an effect on ABS and other such things, you would think that would be included on all 4x4 models really

Yes that's why I'm surprised, and the choice of Driving Modes is also very useful, so if it doesn't have that I'd definitely look to buy a higher trim level. I think there have been some other recent threads about the wisdom of buying an SE trim car (but I've just realised that was your thread :)

yup, would have been one of mine too, its a constant mental debate over what to do, and also limited by funds, cant stretch past £20k unless i suddenly get very lucky

i work at a dealers, and i was chatting with one of our senior sales the other day, he was asking if i definitely needed/wanted all the space of a Kodiaq, as if i went down a size to a Karoq/Ateca/similar i could get a pretty high spec model with low mileage in my budget

i do want the space though, i definitely dont need 7 seats, but i do want the space, i need to get down to a dealers to compare the boots really

SE does not have the option at all.  I added Drive Mode Select, but that is for Eco/Normal/Sport/Snow drive modes.  No option to get Off-road switch.  This was a MY19 build.  Looking at the brochure I had when I bought my Kodiaq, the Off-road switch is not an option and only seems the Scout has it.

I wouldn't loose too much sleep - offroad mode doesn't do that much other than disable auto-stop/start.  If you have a scout - it does activate some of the hill-decent stuff internal to the gearbox, but other than this, its all the same as a standard SE spec.

It`s not.

Offroad mode not only activates hill descent assist if neccessary but it turns also all direct driving assists (ABS, ESC, ASR, EDS and I believe also Haldex) into off road mode.

Okay. A bit more involved in that case. My fault @linni but it is good to know that there is more going on under the bonnet that is shown outwardly.

It was also standard fit to the SEL when I bought mine - not just fitted to the Scout. It also changes the gearbox behaviour on DSG equipped cars.

Tried the hill decent on my SEL yesterday out of curiosity, peculiar as it keeps the same speed that you set with the throttle or brake, though nothing “to write home about”. Perhaps it’s more impressive when truly off-road and traction is sketchy, though it warns about this.

^^^ Exactly, the clue is in the name of the button.

Works as it should on rough terrain, up and down slopes etc calming everything down.

The owners manual does have a warning that “off road” mode is not designed to be used on normal roads.

It works only up to speed of 30 km/h and then switches to normal mode. No worries.

Have tried hill descent on very steep slope, works just fine.

Also worked fine, when got into swampy place with my trailer. Just like locking the differentials.

Once many years ago drove a Discovery from Wakefield to Birmingham with diff lock on on the recommendation of the hire company after it broke and wouldn’t disengage and they wouldn’t replace it (or collect me) - it survived OK as far as I remember.

Luckily the Kodiaq won’t have to work that hard for its living, muddy construction sites and open fields are the max it’ll see.

Tried it down a steep gravelly / tarmac road and it did what it said on the tin.

In Scotland at the moment, but not much call for off road around Birmingham!

No, definitely not. Stayed for couple of weeks in Birmingham last year. Plain as grannys chest.
