New Kamiq - story so far

Featured Replies

About 5 weeks / 1,110 miles in my new Kamiq.  Pleased with just about everything including great service from Ian at West End in Edinburgh.
Slight irritation with the display information bugs and inconsistency.
But of most concern is the uncomfortable front seats.  Still experimenting but so far haven't found a good seat position.  Also, the bulkhead is pressing the side of my left leg when using the footrest.
I'd be interested to hear anyone with similar comments

Only had my Kamiq a few days and not been anywhere yet so seats not really tested yet. Finding a few problems on the media side. Cannot get it to register a second user.

Also got my car via West End Skoda and Ian was the person I dealt with.

No problems with mine  the seats are very comfortable they are called skodas new  comfort seats. May depend on how tall/big you are. Foot rest no problem if I use it

I regularly drive from Surrey to Manchester and back in a day (400 mile round trip)

I find the seats very comfortable and the car gives me an ideal driving position, although at 5'8", I'm not exactly the jolly green giant !

once on the motorway left foot is welded to the foot rest and the right is only occasionally used as the cruise control does most of the work.

IMO it's a great long distance cruiser that is extremely frugal for a small SUV

Getting used to it and not many folk have commented negatively on here or FB etc. 😎

Front seats - I agree with the OP - I've now had 2x 30 mins test drives (SE & SEL) but could not get comfortable seating position.

Because the basic seat position is so low, I ratchet up to the highest poss  - but just could not get comfortable.

Has put me off the thought of buying - also not helped by the infamous Lane Assist kicking in a couple of times during the test drive - very disconcerting.

I have a Scala and I have to agree with the lane assist; had I known about it before buying I would have passed. I find it really annoying having to go through a menu to switch it off, and on the odd occasion I forget it really catches me by surprise - I travel on a road next to my house where there has been roadworks in the past and it pulls me towards the kerb/verge. I really like the car but will not choose another Skoda where you can't permanently disable it.

On a positive note, I suffer from a bad lower back but find the SE seats with lumbar support really comfortable; it does take a while to get the ideal position.

I understand lane assist is or is about to become compulsory on all new carts. It will on by default.

The European Union has many ideas and plans for Safety Features being mandatory.

They need to be a bit better in being sure that EU car manufacturers systems they build in are actually adding to safety  and 'fit for purpose'.

PSA Group can have a better system than say VW Group.

The issue is some different systems are not suited to some roads or road marking so some markets the cars are sold in or driven in.

The UK is no longer in the European Union but is still going to end up with various crap systems imposed on vehicles imported into the UK.

Or maybe not some if not actually safe in the hands of people who can not read an owners manual.

The European Union should do something about Owners Manuals and pathetic translations / typos.

It's not just European cars that have these safety features Japanese Korean American have them

Yes they do but when they are dangerous they deal with the issues.    The EU Commissioner's are that kean on introducing stuff that being sure that they are fit for purpose is trusted to the manufacturers.

Had my SEL for a few days now, very happy until this morning when the infotainment screen would not come on. Eventually came on but was awful for about 30 secs, the screen was rolling with interference similar to a sky dish failure. Anybody had a similar experience. Lane assist.....me thinks this can be de activated via the infotainment system.

I have just ordered a Kamiq and this lane assist is something that needs looking at. I have a Karoq at the moment and always switch Eco start off as if you hold on a junction on the foot brake in the DSG and want to quickly get away the engine starting and the clutch engaging together really feel like they are going to smash the transmission and/or starter. With the manual it was never a problem. If I hold at traffic lights with the parking brake on which you are supposed to do in case a collision jumps your foot off the brake the engine keeps running!

My worst experience with these safety systems was in a Fabia i think when a big plastic rubbish bag blew in front of the car and the brakes came on hard as though it had grounded on a lump of concrete and came within inches of the car behind needing scraping off the back. I actually looked underneath until I realised what had happened. To the dumb machine not hitting a plastic bag was the lesser of 2 evils as opposed to a rear end collision. Roll on self drive cars I think not.

I will probably switch these Euro committee designed safety systems off in a pre-startup cockpit check list as with an aircraft to ensure a safe takeoff. It appears I may need my wife as co-pilot to change heating fan settings etc. on the move in the menus with buttons disappearing left right and centre.

Only for that journey; the next time you start up it will be on by default.

Ok and thanks for telling me .... still learning about the new “toys” on the car

@Skodbuster

Does your Karoq with DSG not have 'Autohold' so that there is no need to sit with a foot on the brake or apply the 'e-brake' when held in traffic?

Stop /start can be switched off at a halt / stopped traffic and 'Autohold' holds the car until you touch the accelerator or the brake or twitch the steering wheel.
