At around £250 for a bonnet respray at a Skoda approved repairer I'll take the risk.....(got mine done after 5 years\75k)

That's actually a very good way of looking at the issue.

Was the £250 for the complete job, start to finish?

TBH I did have the bumper done at the same time so was around £500 (but the bumper is a bigger job as it has to come off and the washer jets removed etc). Most places were quoting £200-£300 per panel if you are flexible on when it can be done. Of course they did the top of the wings etc. Made it look like a completely fresh car though and was a seriously proper job, can't fault it.

I've never thought of having one in the past, but on my current car, I'm tempted to get one for long journeys on the motorway.

Anyone got a bonnet-bra? What is your experience with it?

100% no, they look awful. For me it is the same with the Citroën Cactus, those plastic door panels?! I'd rather have someone open their door on my car and dent it than have those awful looking plastic panels :shake:

Cling film? :handshake:

It looks a bit hideous, however I can see the point for long trips.

If you drive around town most of the time and you have pretty decent paintwork, it makes sense to stick something on for the annual 1000 mile round motorway trip and protect the paint.

They're used all the time in the US as people cover so many miles and largely on freeways etc.  Less so in the UK.

I wouldn't have one on permanently, but don't see the harm in protecting the paint if you think you're likely to damage it.

I mean, a rain mac is hideous, but I'd rather wear one and stay dry than think I look cooler without one and ultimately end up drenched and looking worse....

I see your point but the whole point of a bonnet bra is to keep the bonnet clean and thus aesthetically pleasing, a bonnet bra keeps it clean but makes it completely horrid to look at :D

It is definitely an argument of practicality or visual desire, I'd rather keep with the latter and just get stone chips touched up.

Yeah, I get that and wouldn't want to get seat covers for exactly that reason.    'My seats are lovely...  but I can't see them'.

Although, again, I do appreciate it when a garage puts them on when a guy in greasy overalls sits in the car.  For the sake of protecting them for a short period, it makes sense.

For the odd unusual journey, who really cares if the car looks hideous while you're sat on the motorway for 8 hours?  You don't have to look at the car for the duration of that journey and you then don't have to bother getting chips sorted.   Yes, I wouldn't want to have my car look awful on my drive or every day in the work car park.  But do I care what it looks like when the only people who see it are a load of people in other cars I don't know and will never see again?  No, not really.

Shall we start a "take a picture of your car in a bra" thread?
