Good morning all and thanks for all your efforts on behalf of all owners.  I am in correspondence with Honest John at the Telegraph who is responding in a positive way however he did say:- 'so far yours is the only complaint I have actually received. I would need more to raise the issue'.  His contact details are:-

Honest Advice [honestadvice@telegraph.co.uk]

I am sure you will all agree that the more irritation we can cause the more likely it will be that Skoda will address these issues.

FYI I have attached copy of the initial letter I sent to Honest John together with copy of his response where he compares the Octavia to the Golf 8 - Makes very interesting reading - definitely not good for the VAG Brand.  The 3rd attachment is detail of FAQ Consumer Rights.

In advance I thank you all for your support and assistance.  Between us we ought to be able to obtain a resolution.

I'm afraid I've joined the growing list of owners rejecting vehicles plagued with the technological problems. (It would be interesting to know how many have been rejected over recent months.......)

Make that 4.....I've sent an email as well now.  I've also contacted a friend at Which who will take it to the relevant people next week.....

Sorry guys but mine goes tomorrow. Had enough. Maybe I should have waited but ....

This is the cut down version of what is wrong that a I gave to the service manager recently but excludes anything to do with bad design ... Heard nothing -

MATRIX headlamp assist - not working correctly. Blinds oncoming traffic

Rear traffic assist - volume very low

Park assist alerts - very slow to activate

‘Please drive in the centre of the road’ - keeps coming on even when I’m driving in the middle of the road.

BRAKE warning - comes on when there is nothing in the front of the car.

Navigation - still unable to select Miles instead of Km

LAURA - turned off because she keeps popping up without being called

Bluetooth - the telephone sometimes auto-connects but often doesn’t.

Good luck and I'll be keeping an eye out for the progress ...

Have you agreed the rejection with the garage or is the plan to just take it back to the garage and leave them the keys? I've got a lot of the same problems but the ones that really annoy me are the matrix LEDs dazzling others and the units on all of the screens. The garage have apparently agreed in principle to the rejection but they appear to be dragging things out. Nominally the ombudsman give them 8 weeks to respond but they're just taking the p&^% at this point.

Nope just partexed it at a big financial loss but the aggravation and annoyances it causes was somehow worth it. I can't see Skoda doing much no matter how long we wait. In the meantime we just get more angry every time we get in the car. Life is too short. Bye bye VAG!

So sorry for you but fully understand.  Could I ask before you go would you please put something together for Honest John as per my previous thread - the more we can generate the better  his chance of pressuring Skoda.

Thanks in advance and best of luck for the future.

my reply back i received so thanks to the guys for initially getting on this

Many thanks.

That's the fourth list of serious complaints received over 2 days.

I have now taken up the issue with Skoda UK, asking that the company buys these fault cards back.

Rgds, best wishes and stay safe,

For information in case it hasn't already been mentioned.

The real man that was Honest John, the champion originally behind the website, reviews and it's ethos, retired a while ago. One factor is this was the financial viability of the website. The brand, team and website was bought out and is now run by Heycar.

Quote

In the United Kingdom, the heycar brand operates under Mobility Trader UK Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mobility Trader Holding GmbH and is a sister company of the German Mobility Trader GmbH. The shareholders of Mobility Trader Holding GmbH are Volkswagen Financial Services AG and Daimler Mobility AG.

Not sure if the VAG ownership of HJ influences the way the HJ team now operates, but just be aware.......

Would explain why so little is mentioned in the press about this issue

Respect to you pal. But should never have got to this point. Farcical and unforgivable.
Hope you find some motoring enjoyment with your new motor. May I ask what you’ve gone for? No problem if you’d rather keep it to yourself. ✌🏼

Would explain the use of the stock VAG response "yours is the only complaint that we have ever recieved"

As soon as I saw that I had a feeling that you were wasting your time, now I have seen who is pulling their strings I am convinced.

Should be renamed Dishonest John

Edited by J.R.

I have also contacted honest john (and my dealer) with the followiung list of issues:

·  When selecting your user account, you get the 'Please be patient' message which doesn't disappear and stops you from using the touch screen at all. This means you can’t access anything such as climate control, sat-nav etc. This is intermittent. Changing user accounts quite often does it. After an hour, the screen had still frozen and was unresponsive for the entire journey, despite rebooting.

·  Airbag warning – this light has came on a few times.

·  MPH/KPH Issue - When using the built-in Sat Nav, I am unable to change KPH to MPH. This means when using the virtual cockpit for sat nav (which is one of its primary selling factors) speed is displayed in KPH and not in imperial values. This is pretty dangerous in terms of checking your speed.

·  MPH/KPH Issue - The speedometer refuses to let you change from MPH to KPH. Again, I will be using this car in Europe going forward after lockdown (we do trips to France for example), and not being able to change this is hazardous. The MPH/KPH are not compliant with UK regulations: https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1986/1078/regulation/35/made - so this would need to be fixed.

·  The car (when you successfully select your user account) doesn't always remember your car settings. So, when I get into the car, select my user, it then doesn't actually load my settings correctly which I have previously selected. Such as lane assist, heads up display settings, etc. So, I need to spend time before I drive away picking my settings again. This is poor as my Superb remembers everything.

·  Sometimes the car doesn't remember the seat/mirror positions correctly and they need to be readjusted.

·  Sometimes it just fails to open your user account. You will select it, but it will fail to load continuously, meaning all settings need to be readjusted so you can get on with your journey.

·  The motion gestures sometimes work/ sometimes don't.

·  Sluggish DSG gear changing. When in the lower gears, sometimes it randomly revs very high on second and third gear for no reason. There is no correlation between a cold/warm engine.

·  The voice assistant is a PITA. I think her name is Laura? But it randomly turns itself on during journeys despite me never having uttered its name command.

So I got a reply from HonestJohn. he has 5 complaints now. We need more. Folks, get emailing otherwise nothing will be done about it!

I have also just sent an email to Honest John listing all my faults with my First edition, pretty much stating the same faults which you guys have already reported.

I wonder if anyone has a first edition without the faults?

I think those with newer versions don't have the same issues. likewise, those with newer hardware revisions have access to newer software (1788) that those on us on the first revision of hardware don't have access to.

My car has been with the garage since Monday (they have been very good) and I got an update this morning regarding my issues:

I just wanted to drop you an email with some updates on the issues that you raised below:

·  When selecting your user account, you get the 'Please be patient' message which doesn't disappear and stops you from using the touch screen at all. This means you can’t access anything such as climate control, sat-nav etc. This is intermittent. Changing user accounts quite often does it. (i.e., my wife choosing her user account when entering the car to load her own settings for driving) I have attached video/images of this. You will see in the images that after an hour, the screen had still frozen and was unresponsive for the entire journey, despite rebooting – This has been identified as a faulty telematics control unit, part requires replacement and testing once fitted.  The part required is currently on back order so we do not have an ETA of this at this time.

·  Airbag warning – this light has came on a few times. I have attached video/images of this – Sent to Skoda UK technical for investigation – This could also be related to the faulty control unit mentioned above – awaiting confirmation from Skoda UK.

·  MPH/KPH Issue - When using the built-in Sat Nav, I am unable to change KPH to MPH. This means when using the virtual cockpit for sat nav (which is one of its primary selling factors) speed is displayed in KPH and not in imperial values. This is pretty dangerous in terms of checking your speed – Factory are already aware of this issue and we are awaiting a fix for this.

·  MPH/KPH Issue - The speedometer refuses to let you change from MPH to KPH. Again, I will be using this car in Europe going forward after lockdown (we do trips to France for example), and not being able to change this is hazardous. The MPH/KPH are not compliant with UK regulations: https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1986/1078/regulation/35/made - so this would need to be fixed - Factory are already aware of this issue and we are awaiting a fix for this.

·  Front left windscreen washer. This appears to be much more underpowered than the other one – Still to be investigated.

·  The faint smell of smoke. Possibly lingering in the air filters – Pollen filter to be replaced & air con treatment carried out.

·  The motion gestures sometimes work/ sometimes don't – Ongoing investigation, cannot get this fault to reoccur

·  Sluggish DSG gear changing. When in the lower gears, sometimes it randomly revs very high on second and third gear for no reason. There is no correlation between a cold/warm engine. I have had it happen at the start and end of journeys. I have a DSG in my 2.0 Diesel L&K Superb and I have your new Superb courtesy car which is also a 2ltr diesel DSG. Neither has this issue. Ongoing investigation, cannot get this fault to reoccur

·  The voice assistant is a PITA. I think her name is Laura? But it randomly turns itself on during journeys despite me never having uttered its name command. Factory are already aware of this issue and we are awaiting a fix for this.

As soon as we have any more updates I will let you know.  It is now unlikely that we will have the car ready for Monday as Skoda UK & the Skoda factory in Czech are involved, my plan is to keep you in the loan car at this time.

Have a great weekend and we will catch up again next week.

So, in other words, we cant do anything. Skoda will do it in their own good time!  Not your dealer's fault this issue is at the top of the chain. Surely, all they need to do is replace the unit (I know, I know cost is their issue!). I have not set up and account on Skoda Connect because I do not intend to use it and I don't want to pay for it after the first year but am wondering whether I should to check that it works!

If it is of consolation,, several of us have received acknowledgement from HJ stating that he is in touch with the Head of PR & Press who have responded already requesting details of the affected vehicles.VIN etc so we appear to be achieving more than we have as individuals or our respective dealerships have.  We keep our fingers crossed and remain objective.

That's great news.  I've not heard anything from HJ following the email I sent yesterday.  Mine goes to a dealer on 7th April (the earliest they could see me) to go through again the issues.  But given the responses from other dealers, I can't imagine for a minute it will be come back fixed.

I am in the same position. I am going to see what the response is to the HJ questions. Once I have an answer I will go to the dealer and return the car. the problem is that I suspect the dealer my well fight it. Still, I hope that we get the issue resolved asap to avoid all of that.
