Skoda Running costs

Recommended Posts

I would say a mark 1 OCT VRS is not bad on fuel:

Around town your lucky or very light footed to get in the 20's

On a motoway 35 is average

Not bad for a turbo i guess

Can't be sitting at 70 ;) I have hit 40~mpg regularly driving at 70-80, start stop driving is where it suffers.

With a gentle right foot I regularly see 40mpg on a long motorway journey (~>100miles).

Driving like an OAP, I once achieved 46mpg over a ~200mile journey - a score never to be repeated since.

mpg has dropped apreciable since I installed the audio kit....

Ive been running in my Furby vRS SE in for a couple of thousand miles and I am only getting under 300 miles on a tank of diesel (and no I've not been thrashing it - just a mixture of motorway, B roads and the odd short blast!). Does it get better with age (like most of us)??

Hi, Im on my second fabia VRs now. fuel economy with mostly motorway 70mph driving is just under 400 miles per tank. dropping to as low as 360 miles with town driving.

if u are not getting as many mpg, check your rpm. I rev only to about 2250-2400rpm then change up. after only ever driving petrol cars, this took a bit of getting used to. seems to get decent mileage. did 31000 in 1 year in first fabia, economy did improve over the months, but my current vrs is 1 year old now, 20k miles yet the fuel economy hasnt changed at all as the car has run in. its same as previous car- 400 miles per tank.

Just had my 20,000 service today, no extras but cost me

Saw in a motoring mag late last year that an Octy VRS running costs were 50p per mile that was meant to include everything you spent on it.

You can obviously add a few more pence on now!!

Octavia Mk1 4x4 - why is everyone getting more miles from their tyres than me:confused: Last set of Goodyear NCT5s managed just about 10k:thumbdwn:, and the most I've got (before remap) was about 15k. I always use decent tyres, currently Bridgestones, tracking been checked regularily. Must be my lead feet:D I get about 300 miles from fill to fill, varying between 24 to 30 commuting, and between 30 to 38 on a run. Sorry I've not kept proper records on all the bills but the worst surprise was when they shortened the cambelt life and when the remap ate the clutch:thumbdwn::thumbdwn: Car is on variable servicing and usually "asks" to be serviced every 16k - about 18months.

I'll try and sort out a complete entry for my 61,000mile 04/54 Fabia vRS when I can get the info together but for now I'll mention I haven't had to change brake pads or wiper blades yet and had no warranty items during the three years the warranty applied for. The original tyres were swapped front/rear then eventually changed at 37,500 miles.

Quick word on my '06 Fabia 1.4tdi estate - not had it long, and so far 60mpg from first tank and second tank 66mpg according to the computer. Should manage a 600 mile tank next :)

That's a mix of b-roads to motorways, I don't spend long in heavy town traffic but the car does get used a bit in town. I'm impressed!

I know this hasn't really been added to much of late, but as my car is getting on a bit, figured I'd post the work it's had done over the last 9 years/100,000 miles.

It's a 1.4 16v (AUB) Fabia estate in Comfort/Ambeinete guise. Bearing in mind it had a list price of ~£12k when new it's had around £6.5k spent on it in repairs and servicing, excluding tax and tyres!

In majour parts it's had (based mainly on service history/invoices);

  • a new steering rack (£500 parts from Skoda!)
  • full exhaust system, inc. Cat
  • 2 wheel bearings
  • rebuilt brakes (fair enough)
  • several misfires/lambda probes/EGR values/manifold pressure sensors
  • console bushes
  • suspension creaking - later the passenger front sping snapped in two!
  • HT leads/coil packs.

Plus the piston rings are going, looking at around £600+ to replace making the total nearer to £7 - £7.5k on parts + labour and servicing over its life thus far.

Does around 4mpg too on a journey of about 3 miles town, 17miles 50-60mph roads with a gentle foot but nearer to 30mpg around town.

For a car maker with such a good reputation for realibilty - I don't really see how it's justified. But my expectations might be too high as this is my first proper car so not sure what to expect.

To be spending around 75% of the cars cost in maintaince seems excessive to me, but . . .

All that said, a lot of the work was financed by previous owners, the engine is renowned for being crap, and the steering rack was a balls up from the start.

However, I would still buy a newer/lower mileage one again if I could find the right one.
