I bough these and fitted last week. I like them but I’m not overly impressed. For the price they are miles apart from the factory VAG dampers. They fit very well but don’t come with the correct washers. I know this is nitpicking but it’s a bit short imho at the price point.

I hope they last buy honestly they are a world apart form the oem ones on all our other vag cars here.

I fitted those 4 years ago (with extra washers) and they are still working great.

Ye, did the same as paulski. 👍

have to say its a very nice little mod and the gentle opening of the bonnet is strangely satisfying....

I brought a pair of Ebay for £8.99 new (unbranded) ---- just checked my ebay history and it describes them as "2 bonnet boot gas struts bootlids tailgates parts hatchback ball studs 55cm"

For the amount of time i lift the bonnet they were good enough for me and by not using the bonnet prop I could fill my screen washer up more easily :)

Hi S, did you remove the bonnet prop.

I did, it looks more tidy under the bonnet. 👌

I was going to but never got around to it .... like a lot of little jobs!

+1 for the Febi Bilstein struts (350Nm). I removed the prop and keep it in the storage bay along with the roof bars.

Out of curiosity, do you have one or two struts?

I did mine a year ago, posted 28 sept 2019 here

Two on mine, I'd be wary of fitting only one due to the possibility of twisting the hood. I have seen other posters considering fitting only one though. I know there's only a single prop on original fit - but that supports the front of the pretty heavy hood.

Deffo two, if not just to satisfy OCD. :):)

Can't find the struts anywhere, all out of stock!

Must be Golf Mk8 owners ordering them having found Skoda borrowed this year's production quantity for the Octavia Mk4 launch.

Dependant on what your after, I've just gone on the bay and the ones I brought are available (i was happy with quality) - '2 bonnet boot gas struts bootlids tailgates parts hatchback ball studs 55cm'  Prices range from £9.99 up to £15

That's the thing I'm not sure about the length and the power of the ones to get.

Also do I need the longer M8 bolts or just standard length?

Because I can get them for a couple of quid cheaper off of Ebay. It's stupid paying £4.15 p&p for something that's less than that in value terms.

Also you can get some nice black ones too.

However I have noticed that SGS do, do gas struts for the Octavia (albeit Mk2), would they fit?

Mine came with everything I needed apart from washers (or maybe i wanted bigger ones and had them to hand).  I thought it came with both long and short tbh.  I brought mine April 2019 - Checked bay history and the item says it has been updated but the ebay item number is the same.  I normally take pics of everything but only have pics of them fitted.

Sure can ... I wasnt sure if we did ebay links nowadays after seeing a post recently!

This is a link to the updated lifters of the ones i brought (same seller as mine), they are £8.59. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/192589481940

If you wanted to use another seller, there are others on there, just make sure the length and NM are the same and you should be good.

Work block those tiny url links so cant see what in them

They're 550mm 300NM or 600NM struts in those links.
