Right hello guys new here. Right i was recently going away, qnd well instarted to hear like a slight noise dont know where from. Anywho got on the motor noise was gettinf louder started to slow down so putting through gears like you would. Come to put it into fifth it crunched like to say moved off without putting it in properly. So now im pulled over, hard shoulder on the m1 (may i say scariest thing ever) and well it womt go into fifth and every gear even in neutral when you release the clutch it stalls. Also was making a dreadful clicking noise when changing gear but only engaging the clutch!

Sounds like your gearbox has packed up and is stuck in fifth gear, check the linkage hasn't come adrift, other than that you're up the creek without a paddle and will need to get the car recovered.

Cars only covered 54000 on a 63 plate! Surely it cant be a whole new box! The car has been recovered outside my parents home...

Not much more I can suggest, you'll need to look at the gear linkage first to make sure it hasn't broken.

I think the gear linkage mentioned, was an issue on some Polo's etc so may well be an issue here, if they share components! I thought it would be on older vehicles, though!

Hopefully if its a real damage, it'll be the clutch, not the gearbox as thats cheaper.
