Let me know how it goes doing the removal. I have the kit to do it just not got round to it myself yet

Dare I ask, why would you remove the rear wiper?  You're not going to be able to see a thing when it rains 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yes mate I remove the rear wiper arm on my old Vauxhall and I use Rain-X and other special chemicals haven't had a need to use a rear wiper for 12 years so I'm going to give it a go on the Octavia plus it will make the car look better I do not think I will run into a problem at this present moment I have got rain x on it and not use the rear wipers since I've bought the car

I thought it would be an MOT failure. The 'if it was fitted, it should be there', but apparently the rear wiper isn't tested :wondering:

All my windows are coated in Turtle Wax rain repellent, but I wouldn't leave it up to that to ensure I could see out the back.

Driving a van for work for over 8 years, I appreciate having the ability to see behind in my car a hell of a lot clearer.

On new glass particularly (in my experience) Rain X is excellent.......

I had a brand new works van, Mercedes Vito, and put Rain X on the screen. You do have to make sure it is buffed off thoroughly for the best experience, and the driving conditions were specific, ie mainly fast motorway and major A roads, but I drove from Peterborough (iirc) to Nottingham (it was a number of years ago) in quite heavy rain and hand on heart, never even had to use the windscreen wipers once. Driving speed of said journey was a major factor though and not rush hour either.

I have had to remove the rear wiper on my Octy recently so you reminded me to get some Rain X on the glass. Cheers.

Same with my car. The windscreen just beads the water and the force of the air moves it along. Doesn't work so effectively on the rear screen, especially with a bit of road dirt and general grime on the screen. And that's then where the rear wash / wipe comes into play.

That's very interesting exactly my point where did you buy your cap or bung from wouldn't mind paying high-end prices for one thanks a lot mate

Got mine from kill all wipers. He looks snowed under at the mo tho.

Looks much better and use a decent hydrophobic coating you won't miss it.

Just had MOT done and no mention of it either. Ideally need to code out the rear wiper/wash tho otherwise could get a leaky boot

Gtechnic g5 water repellant is lots better than rain x and last alot longer

Really good stuff on the front too water clears straight off and last ages

I would never remove rear wiper, I find this very useful especially when its showing.

Never seen the point in removing a wiper from the rear

Yep, I don't really get the point of removing it.

Sure, water repellant coatings can work, but a wiper is fitted as standard and is better.

After driving a saloon car for over a decade I appreciate the rear wiper.

I don't really buy that it makes any improvement to the aesthetics either, I don't think I'd even notice.  Until I drove it and it rained. 😂

I'm struggling to see what they actually test nowadays!

+1, thats what I use and its great, although it wont stop crap sticking to the rear window thats forced up from the back of the car (although its pobably less of an issue on a hatch compared to an estate)

The biggest issue I had with saloon ownership was being in traffic when raining as you couldn't see push bikes etc coming up behind you in traffic in built up areas when dark.

water repellent doesn't help on the rear screen IME, there's not enough air flow to push the rain off. I have rain-x on all the side windows on all the cars and it's very good when the glass is clean.

I was recommended Aquapel on another forum - as used on airline windows. I'd say it's no better than Rain-X but more expensive.

I'd not remove the rear wiper though. It works far better on the front screen as others have said, airflow. I must buy some Rain-X.
