• 2.0 tfsi 220

• 2016 VRS hatch

• 91,000 miles

• Cambelt n/a uses a chain

• 6 speed manual

• Gearbox oil original

• No major work yet, but power steering starting to make noises approaching full lock and drop links creaking slightly (I blame speed bumps and crappy potholed roads)

• Original clutch and flywheel

Also, having spent its last 85,000 miles as a private hire vehicle, the interior has held up much better than expected, especially when you consider all the 'great unwashed' that have sat in it!

  • 2.0 TDI 184
  • 2013 VRS Estate
  • 125,500 miles
  • Cambelt/watepump changed once
  • 6 speed manual
  • Not sure about gearbox oil
  • Nothing major other than rear coil springs being replaced.

Question, if the cambelt/waterpump were replaced at 81k miles back in 2019, am I due to replace again now that I'm approaching 126k?

• 2.0 TFSI 220

• 2013 VRS Hatch

• 122k miles

• Cambelt - n/a uses a chain

• 6 speed DSG

• Gearbox oil: changed 1 time

• Water pump replaced in year 2 under warranty. REVO Stage 1 map at 89k. Turbo replaced at 108k due to seized actuator (thankfully seized only slightly open, so didn't over-spin and disintegrate into my engine!)

• Original clutch and flywheel

  • 3 months later...
  • 1.6TDI (CLHA)
  • 2014 Elegance Estate
  • 275,000 miles. 2 owners
  • 2 cambelts & waterpumps
  • 5 speed
  • Front struts ,rear shocks.  Replacement brake master cylinder. Faulty wiring repaired on intercooler water pump (due to too many oil changes tugging on the loom) 17" Alloy wheels badly corroded causing leaks, changed to 16" steels as they're lighter and more comfortable! New blower fan. 1 new wheel bearing.

Still on original turbo, injectors, DPF and clutch - although it's recently started juddering in 1st & reverse and due to be replaced. Engine is smooth and quiet and pulls like a train (for a 1.6!) and uses negligible oil. Recently sailed through its MOT with no advisories and very clean emissions.

Now covered 290,000 miles,

Clutch replaced at 275k (the original!) Plate similar to Rizla paper-but never stopped working...

EVERYTHING still works...

Engine still quiet and smooth, seems to be getting smoother and perkier with age. Uses negligible oil (Castrol Edge)

My nephew drove it recently and commented on how silky smooth the gear change was..

Apart from the fact it's euro5 I see no reason in changing it! I think I got a good one!

Best car I've ever owned, owes me nothing!

It is still not run in, another 100k and it should consume so little that you might check the level between services but never need to top up, if it does not get driven under sustained heavy loads during that time the oil consumption may remain as is but certainly wont increase.

The above was not a joke, modern engines and especially modern oils are so good that most vehicles never get properly run in during their lifetime, but then they dont have to be rebuilt every 80-100K either, topping up with a small amount of oil is a small price to pay.
