Another great bit of work - looks like a factory job. Do you have 10 colours on your LEDs? Earlier ones had 3 I think but not sure where yours sits on that.

yes, mine (MY17) comes with 10 colours.

MY15 and MY16 came with only 3 colours.

MY17 onwards they came with 10 colours.

i contemplated coding it to 30 colours, but i figured that would b too many and a waste of time.

Was thinking of amending mine (but yes the 30 looks like a mountain of work). A friend of mine has a 2019 C43 AMG and the lighting there is a proper 16m colour-type blend. The standard ones are just a little better but I can't put my finger on it. The pink is a little more 'Magentary', there's a really subtle blue/violet. I guess it looks a little more...conservative/executive, if that makes sense. Makes the RGB setup we have a little more playground - I can't see the Yellow being popular, or the weird orange; can happily recode those. I've got to get my head around what needs changing, but VCDS doesn't help itself as the adaptions are all buried in Central Electrics Module which has about 10,000 options - some of which are in English, most in German, and are a pig to try and scroll down to.

Gandalf's latest "project" is complete....Front Grille DRL light bar.

...

Test fitting the clips to hold the light bar behind the grille.

Mounted and wiring routed on the bumper to use the same path as the factory PDC and headlight washer wiring.

Hello Gandalf!

This is my very first post to this forum. Your car is inspiring me a lot! Specially this grille DRL. Did these clips follow with led bar or did you do it by yourself?

I have 2019 Estate 2.0 tdi 4mo L&K an this would be awesome retrofit for that! So far my only project has been installing 60cm 200W led bar behind lower grill. Im living close to arctic circle and we need as much light as possible on the road during dark period. :)

thank u :)

please NOTE that this is not a Light bar that will give u additional light on the road. this is a DRL light strip. it functions as a DRL and complements the existing DRL in the headlights.

with regards to the clips, no they didn't come with the clips.
the clips i used r for holding down electric wires/cables. it just so happened to b the right size.

however since then, i've changed the DRL light strip to a version that is made for the mk6/7 Golf GTi front grille. details here.

to fix these to the grille, i used an L-shaped bracket to hold them in place.

Yeah!

This is only for show. Nothing else. Something to stand up in parking lot of supermarket.

I was planning to purchase this Golf version. There are brackets built in, but I dont see L shaped brakets in picture. Do you might have those visible in anywhere? Something selfmade? 3d printed?

Here is picture my LED bar during installation... custom brakets and attached to front beam. I did it similar way to my previous Superb as well.

It's a simple metal bracket - 4x of them.

2x per light bar.

One side is glued to the top of the light bar, and the other end glued to the back of the the grille.

Unfortunately I don't have a pic of how it's mounted.... sorry.

The bracket...

A close of how it's aligned behind the grille..

Got the intercooler upgraded on Gandalf, to the IE FDS version.

much larger core than the factory version.

should help with the little IS20 turbo to last longer and not run out of puff so quickly.

should also help with keeping the IATs down during the warm/hot summer months.

whilst the car was up, i got the last of the aero under trays fitted - in this case the centre exhaust cover.

@JR RS In the bottom photo of this post, do you have an after-market undertray that protects your oil sump? I do have any protection where you do have in this area. Do you happen to have a part code for this trim? I am having to get a new sump, and would like to protect it going forward :)

Mission accomplished - MIB2 to MIB2.5 conversion on Gandalf!

The whole process was quite easy to do.

Those with a MIB2 unit, aka Columbus (Harman version) with 8" screen can do the upgrade. i.e. MY15 to MY17.

No need to change the glovebox head unit. Just the screen.

I sourced a secondhand 9.2" Screen from a MY18 Superb being wrecked.

Got the G11 to G13 firmware conversion from mibsolution.

Then once done, reinstalled the latest maps.

I'll need getting used to where the things r cause there r no more physical buttons.

Will do a how-to-guide soon.

The trim piece is not flush behind the top of the screen though, but u don't notice it unless u look through the windscreen.

Will need to sort this trim piece at some point in the future.

One last thing @JR RS In this post you mention getting "the G11 to G13 firmware conversion from mibsolution." Can you describe what this conversion is and what it brings to the table? I have an MIB2.5 also, and wondering about possible upgrades/improvements to it. I believe mibsolution is no more, so I have been unable to find anything via that avenue.

  • Author

@netman82 - part number for the full length engine under tray is 5Q0825236N.

with regards to the G11 to G13 conversion - basically this allows u to upgrade ur existing MIB2 unit to an MIB2.5 unit.

  • Columbus MIB2 unit paired with 8" Display screen (with buttons)

  • Columbus MIB2.5 unit paired with 9.2" Display screen (no buttons)

previously u had to change both the glovebox headunit AND the display screen.

with this conversion, u only need to change the screen. the existing MIB2 glovebox unit becomes a MIB2.5 unit.

benefits (that i remember) are:-

  • bigger display area - 9.2" vs 8"

  • much much higher screen resolution

  • slightly different menus

  • 3-way home split screen (allows u to simultaneously display multiple elements on the home screen, for e.g. navigation, car info, media)

  • improved response times

  • this AIO conversion included the Performance Monitor, as well as Easy Entry Access (Seats)

@JR RS Thank you for getting back to me and with such detail :)

With regards to the under tray, does it replace a section of existing tray and then extend to protect the oil sump? Did you require any additional bolts for fitting? If so, can you recall the part name or code for those please?

@netman82 mibsolution is up again very short time(1-3 days i think) . mibwiki is already working.

@Codrut20171 Oh that's smashing, thank you or letting me know! :)

Having said this, the site isn't loading for me :/ Can you confirm the address?

Edited by netman82

By the way, mib2.5 and mib2 (high) harman units are exactly the same. every single sticker, everything. Just the software on it is different.

Can just confirm what JR RS said, I've also done the conversion. Definitely worth it.

mibsolution.one

I think it was also mib.mibsolution.one but not sure.

Check in the following days.

Mibwiki.one is the wiki. This is already working.

@Codrut20171 / @JR RS With you both having an MIB2.5, do you happen to know if there's a newer of the software than this one I currently have download: MHI2_ER_SKG13_P4526 (1440) ?

I don’t think so.

  • Author

@netman82 - 1440 is the latest for the MIB2.5 G13.

As for the undertray, it replaces the existing short one.

The longer undertray uses the same front and side mounting points & screws. However the rear section requires 3x bolts (M8x20) to secure to the sub-frame. Part No. is WHT000729A.
