Fabia II 1.6TDI - Odd squeaking sound when going over/down from speed bumps

Featured Replies

Hi all, seemingly at random my car (2013 1.6TDi 75ps) has started making a loud squeaking/crunching sound when going over speedbumps (unless I go over at a real snail's pace). Any ideas what this could be? I've looked with the car on the ground and the suspension/shock absorbers look ok (no obvious leaks or what not, but I'm not an expert)...

Thanks!

My old mk2 started doing this sort of noise after about 3  years old and it was the wishbone mounting rubbers failing, had them done with Skoda original bushes but used a recommended garage as Skoda wanted £250 a side, bushes were around £15 each but sadly only lasted another 3 years before needing replacing again, this time  though garage told me that the solid bushes from a Seat Coupra would last much longer at a small trade off with a a bit more vibration in higher gears but did not notice that but seemed a bit firmer on suspension to me, felt more connected to the road  oh they did cost more around £30 each but lasted until  car was kindly written off by uninsured driver in 2019 and car had just passed MOT

Another squeaking issue when going over bumps slowly could be a cracked front spring right at the top where it joins the cup where it joins the wing  this normally happens after cold weather as well , this has also happened to me , i did the pair myself and spring was cracked on the last ring of the spring in the holder under wing but this issue usually throws up a clunk as well when turning wheels when parking so might not be this but worth checking

Mine was the anti roll bar bushes. Spary them with silicone spray. If ti stopps then you know where your issue is. Also mine comes back every winter no matter how many times i've changed them. Now I have Polibushes with that special grease and it still dries out and squeeks over speed bumps.

Thanks both, I’ll check the bushes then. Had a look at the springs and they looked alright, but will look more closely at those if this continues after spraying some silicone on the bushes

So.. having checked  both the springs and the roll bar bushes and all is well. Sprayed WD’s silicon spray on the bushes I could easily access (roll bar, ball joint, ...), but unfortunately made no difference. I took the below video to show what sound I’m talking about - does this help narrow down the options?

Mines been making a squeak when its cold but it goes away after some driving, Maybe its just the cold weather we've been having.

I agree cold weather. It is a bushing issue, you just have to workout which one it is. Mine sounds identical.
