OBDeleven "Lane Assistant" vs "Lane Change Assistance" in Dashboard Control Unit?

Featured Replies

(Sorry for the flood of posts today, new toys and all...)

So, I've got an OBDeleven for my new 2020 Octavia MkIII Scout, and have been looking through lots (and lots) of settings.

In the Control Unit: Dashboard I see both "Lane Assistant" (set to yes) and "Lane Change Assistance" (set to no).

My car has the feature where it will both show me on the virtual cockpit display whether I'm staying in lane, and also tug on the steering wheel to help keep me in lane. It also has blind spot detection with the blinking orange lights embedded in the sideview mirrors.

So, what's the difference between "Lane Assistant" and "Lane Change Assistance"?

thanks,

Lane Assistant helps you stay in a current lane. For that your car needs camera on front windshield.

Lane Change Assistance helps you change the lane. For that your car needs additional distance sensors (those for blind spots).

Thanks @Milentije

(would it be so difficult for Skoda to make this stuff more clear? Heh).

So, my car does have both of those features.

Which brings me back to wondering, why when I read Long Coding with OBDeleven in my car do I see in the Control Unit: Dashboard both "Lane Assistant" (set to yes) and "Lane Change Assistance" (set to no)?

regards,

It might be handy if you can confirm if it's an adaption channel or part of the lcode. If it's the former, the byte/bit would also help narrow it down.

At least for lcodes, the label files are generated by the tool manufacture so there may be mistakes.

Assuming the car works and there are no fault codes, feel free to try changing it. If you get a fault code (missing message) then it probably doesn't need enabling :D

remember the settings cover most vag cars so just cause you can see it in obd11 doesnt mean your car has it

Indeed @Powerred, absolutely true. (I've posted several threads here lately; in only one of them I gave my background; in short, I was writing program code in the 1970s.  So, yeah, nothing about overlapping, apparently conflicting names/ settings surprises me. Just asking about a variety of specific examples of these possible apparent contradictions because I also sadly know how low quality software embedded in physical systems tends to be...).

@langers2k I'll check where the various related setting names appear (adaptations vs long coding) and report back. Thanks!

I seem to be following you around, I’m currently sat trying to enable water temp in my off road gauges without success

I have a Scout (so it has Offroad mode), and I hadn't even been aware of the existence of the "Offroad gauges" display. I found it accidentally when attempting to enable a compass display (which of course doesn't work, because my car has no nav, and has no compass) but I did cause that display to appear. You mention water temp; some kind of temperature gause does appear in my Offroad gauges display, but I thought it was oil temp. (Which is already on the virtual cockpit, so I didn't pay attention to it).

The one gauge that appears and works on the Offroad gauges display for me is the wheel angle, and it seems to seriously lag the actual angle-away-from-straight-forward of the wheels of the car, to the point that I can't think of any situation in which it would be useful, so I plan to disable that display.

Hi @langers2k

Looking at backup and history.txt files from OBDeleven, here are where I find the various "lane assistant" vs "lane change assistance" settings:

Control Unit: A5 Driver Assistance

    System description: MQB_B_MFK
    Software number: 3Q0980654L
    Software version: 0610
    Hardware number: 3Q0980654A
    Hardware version: H13

    ODX name: EV_MFKBoschMQBB
    ODX version: 002041

    Long coding:
        0203070200000401002200558150A90084000E20000000
    Adaptations:

        Switch-on condition, lane depart. warn.:
            ---:
                on (setting via menu)

Um. Weird. That's the ONLY "lane" that I find (including search "fahr" and "bahn") in the OBDeleven backup and history files...

Okay, manually searching:

Central Electrics, found nothing, neither in Long Coding nor in Adaptations.

Adaptive Cruise Control, Long Coding:

Lane_change_support (deactivated) [my car has both active lane keeping and blind spot detection/ lane change assistance activated and working, despite this setting]

Traffic_sign_detection (deactivated) [not relevant to lane vs lane, but, I've activated Traffic sign recognition, and it is working, despite this setting]

Control_module_for_lane_assistance (not installed) [despite that all lane keeping and change assistance functions are activated and working]

Lane Change Assistant Right,  (can't check Adaptations offline), nothing in Long Coding.

Steering Assistance, (can't check Adaptations offline),

 Lane assistant (active)

Driver Assistance, (can't check Adaptations offline), Long Coding:

 SWA (Not_coded)

 LaneAssist_AGW_output (disabled)

 Lane_assist_off_text (disabled)

 Blind_spot_detection (Coded)

-Jay

(totally unrelated to all of the above, gotta love the field texts in OBDeleven "Urban_autonomouse_emergency*"; I guess little creatures bring big features to these ultra-modern computers-on-wheels that we call cars these days? 🐁  😸)

Quick update, got back in the car, connected to the OBDeleven so I could check the Adaptations:

Adaptive Cruise Control, Long Coding:

Lane_change_support (deactivated) [my car has both active lane keeping and blind spot detection/ lane change assistance activated and working, despite this setting]

Traffic_sign_detection (deactivated) [not relevant to lane vs lane, but, I've activated Traffic sign recognition, and it is working, despite this setting]

Control_module_for_lane_assistance (not installed) [despite that all lane keeping and change assistance functions are activated and working]

Lane Change Assistant Right,  nothing in Adaptations, nothing in Long Coding.

Steering Assistance, nothing in Adaptations,

 Lane assistant (active)

Driver Assistance, Adaptations,

Warning intensity, lane depart, warning (settable as Weak, Medium, Strong, or Selection via Menu)

Switch-on condition, lane depart, warn (settable as Off, On, on setting via menu, or off settings via menu)

Driver Assistance, Long Coding:

 SWA (Not_coded)

 LaneAssist_AGW_output (disabled)

 Lane_assist_off_text (disabled)

 Blind_spot_detection (Coded)
