Upgrading to a DAB head unit..

Featured Replies

Hi guys, Im trying to figure out how easy or hard it is, to fit an aftermarket head unit so I can get DAB radio into the car and also will I lose my parking sensors and ShatNav etc..?

I’ve got a 2011 Superb EST Elegance DSG.....

many thanks in advance....

cheers

Bob

And what is the unit you have now?

Well I have two the first one I went to the dealers the have the software updated as it's was not responding . They said it wouldn't update .So I bought a second hand one .The same model that coded and updated to the latest software at the Skoda dealer's . Now that's very temperamental some times it works but slow to change when using . And sometimes it freezes both are  5E0 035874A .And the screen is a 5E0919605D.

So I've spent quite a bit . All I want is a unit that doesn't freeze

I have the Columbus.

Get a Columbus with DAB. The aerial you get a cheap windscreen one off eBay. Is that an option ?

I Have DAB unit and a Aerial on the roof . Pab has some units I can buy with the C/P removed and flashed to Mib 2 with a 8" screen . I'm waiting for his reply

@Getting100 - I think you've wondered in to the wrong section as your experiences with a MK3 Octavia aren't relevant to a MK2 Superb...

Factory headhunts for a MK2 Superb don't have component protection, nor do they support CP in other modules. The only exception would be a MIB PQ STD2 (Amundsen) headunit that was fitted to the later Yeti, that does use CP and can be used in a MK2 Superb if it's been hacked. I'm sure Pab will sort you out but if not, it might be worth creating a new thread in a more appropriate section :)

@bifferbob - it'll depend which after market headunit you choose to which functions are supported.

Fitting should be pretty simple, you might need a few adaptors (wiring, antenna etc) and a new facia.

Make sure you don't turn the ignition on while the airbag connector on the stereo facia is unplugged. If you do, the airbag light will come on and you'll need VCDS or similar to reset it

Most DAB stations are only broadcast in low bitrate mono, I have an Android unit fitted with an external windscreen antenna and have great reception, the inside plastic film ones are more prone to week signal breakup.
