2016 plate 1.2Tsi Yeti

Featured Replies

First off I have had the car new direct from the factory, delivered June 2016.

I have just had my Yeti battery tested during the cars 5th year service, the battery records 75% charge.  The garage has suggested it is replaced at the end of the summer?

I believe the recommendation is to change the battery at the 5 year point, in my case June 2021 (this year).  I understand the stop start function when fitting a new battery has to be considered?

Can anyone recommend a suitable replacement battery, I would prefer a quality battery and not something as "cheap as chips" as the Yeti is going to be with me for some years yet.

I will also be changing the timing belt and water pump at the same time, I expect to have the work completed in May this year.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Pete, the 75% SOC indication MAY be misleading, depending on whether the battery was fully charged before testing it  - the energy recuperation system on these micro-hybrids will not normally allow the vehicle alternator to charge the battery to 100% - to allow spare capacity in the battery to permit regenerative charging when on overrun coasting or braking. The battery in my 1.4 TSI often gets down to 40-50%, at which point the auto engine stop function ceases - chiefly due to short trips to work being my main mileage.

I'd advise getting the existing battery charged and retested before discarding what MAY still be a serviceable unit. If it has actually reached the end of its life, there are several suggestions on the forum for suitable replacements - search battery replacement. Is yours AGM of EFB?

I have used Battery Mega store recently and found them very good for price and service should you need to go down the replacement route.

Thank you for that information I will check it out, fortunately the garage I'm using now to service my Yeti is an independent owned by my son in laws uncle.
