Hi Experts ,Yesterday I have bought used Steering Rack from scrap yard because mine was leaking under tremendous pressure of passing the MOT , I have spend £150 as a labour for fitting the rack , when I bought I just saw there was rust UNDER the rubber area shown in  Imaginary Image. Under pressure I could not even ask mechanic to clean the area and paint or check , there are no leaks and it seems working fine , also noticed that rack hub does not look very thick metal. Now I am worried that what if it brakes during driving from rusted place and may cause accident , Please advice if the right end of rack as per image  have major role to play and incase if it breaks or Leakes under the rubber ( shown on image) can it  be dangerous for car users? Hope for advice please. cheers raky

Don't worry about it, it'll just be surface rust and the rack is hardened steel and can't break.
