Delay, DSG.

Featured Replies

This might just be normal, so just say if it is.

Will ask anyway, when changing from reverse to drive with a DSG, it just "seems" to take a while ? It always "seems" worse because I have to reverse out onto the road, not main, and when I'm half way across the road someone comes along and I have to wait to go into drive. Nobodies got impatient yet, but I feel a bit of a numpty looking like I don't know what I'm doing.

Not normal, or a characteristic or really something that needs to be happening, attention needed someplace with the DSG.

So what miles done and has there been any Warranty Work required or Servicing / Updates?

Agreed - not normal.  As a matter of course, It could a couple of things that come to mind:

1) The DSG gearbox oil is low or the gearbox oil/filter is dirty.  This may be affecting the action of the control actuators.  It will cost you an DSG oil change £215.

2) The control module is slowly failing (bad).  Is the delayed action just between Reverse and Forward? You should have a DQ250 box if I remember right.

3) The DSG control selector position sensors are slowly failing - its taking longer than expected pick up an electronic signal to say that the gearbox needs to change gearing according to the selector position.

Agreeded with @e-Roottoot - what is your driving style and what kind of mileage have you done?

Have you had the car from new? Has it always been like that?

As above.

What car do you have and what gearbox is fitted? I ask that as there maybe a software update for it.

Dependant on what gearbox version you I would check the DSG service history. If it is serviceable and has not been serviced then I would get it booked in. If it has been serviced within the schedules perhaps it needs a fresh adaption.

Perhaps foot on brake for more than two seconds is activating hill hold and then that's delaying takeoff?

How long your foot is on the brake pedal is not what actives Hill Hold Assist / Control, it is how hard you press the brake pedal.

You can stop and hold the brake pedal for many seconds without HHA being activated.

Was not expecting that.

Car was three years old when i got it in 2019. Its done 37,000

Its been the same since i got it, when driving it changes up quick in econ, and when towing, to me it changes up at just the right time.

When i enquired about the Haldex at Skoda, they said, "that doesn't get done unless you ask". That tells you something.

I will be getting the DSG and Haldex serviced.

My 2016 2.0 tdi manual states it's always active in reverse with a 5% slope that is really not alot by all accounts. I notice it activating going up into my driveway from a road.

The usual VW Lost in Translation.

It can hold on all slopes, but the pedal has to be pressed hard enough to enable it.

You can hold the car on the throttle which they advice not to, or on the foot brake and not activate Hill Hold Assist or use the Parking brake.

It can hold the car for 2 seconds, That does not mean that the cars has to stay there for 2 seconds if you press the accelerator.

Same with Autohold really that you need not push the brake pedal hard enough to have it function.

Reason i know is i have only one foot and drive autos, and have driven DSG's for over 10 years now.

Try it yourself tomorrow and you will see that you can use the brake and not have HHA / HHC hold the car for 2 seconds as you go from brake pedal to the

throttle.

If it works everytime on a 5 degree or more slope that is a new one on me.

I was under the impression the clutch disengages when brake is pressed.
brake is pressed to change from R to D, therefore there’s a slight delay before it reengages.
Could be way off the mark however.

'Slight' / minuit / not very long,

and you know how long when you drive DSG's, Dry or Wet clutch.

So if you have not got launch control and you go to Sprints /  Drag Strips etc you might hold the car on the Parking Brake if you have a manual one and launch the car rather than hold on the brake pedal and then mash the accelerator.

The difference is 'slight' but over 1/8, or 1/4 mile might make all the difference.
