Witless android auto help

Featured Replies

Hi. I have just picked up my my21 karoq sportline. I can't seem to get witless android auto to work. It connects via cable no problem but as soon as I disconnect the cable it disconnects from my phone.

Any ideas how I get it wirelessly connected?

Thank you.

Mine just connects automatically via Bluetooth. Have you linked it to the car?

What phone are you using and what version of Android is it running?

The subject has been brought up many times before on various Briskoda forums. You can do a search but the basic rule of thumb is:

1: Any smart phone running Android 11 should work

2: Any Samsung and Google Pixel phone running Android 10 should work

3: There are a couple of older Samsung phones ( expensive ones ) that ran Android 9 that should work

4: if your phone doesn't fit into any of the above categories then it's not capable of using wireless Android Auto.

That explains why mine has no problems then. It's an old Samsung Galaxy S8 running Android 9. (But I doubt it's very expensive now as the trade-in / upgrade deals don't even mention it any more!

That would explain it. Thank you.

I have a Huawei mate 20 X that runs on Android 10 bit luckily is due the android 11 update in the next few weeks.

Thank you 👍

Just tried with my work phone (iPhone se 2020) and it worked instantly so it's definitely the Android software version 👍 thank you, that was driving me mad 😂

Good. Well that's a lot easier than the lot with Octavia iV's. They couldn't connect despite having the correct phones and I couldn't work it out. Turns out the initial bunch of infotainment systems used in the new Octavia ( and some of the other models too ) weren't wireless auto capable !!!  :D

Rule of thumb - whenever a brand new model of is launched, wait at least a year on sale b4 ordering a new car and let others be the guinea pig.  ( I wouldn't touch an Enyaq with a barge pole until summer 2022 at the earliest. )

Does anyone has issues with wireless Android auto? Never had a problem with my Octavia but from time to time when connecting in my Karoq the sound from Google maps and Google assistant keeps cutting. Music and phone calls are fine though.

Unsure if it has to do with it being wireless in my Karoq Vs my Octavia wired.

Ok for anyone that is interested.

I have managed to get my phone on Android 10 working with wireless android auto ..  (a lot of frustration and Google searching later) and should work on most phones.

First open the android auto app on your phone. Click on the 3 dots to bring down the about menu. Tap on that heading 10 times to add this app to developer mode, then open the app and turn ON wireless projection.

Then delete the phone from the head unit and also delete the head unit from your phone.

Reconnect as if it's a new connection and (you must have your WiFi, data and GPS turned ON on your mobile)

And that's it. wireless android auto should now work.

Hope this helps.

I think I have set all the parameters, but can't get wireless AA to connect.

I have a Galaxy A12 phone running Android 11.

My car is a 20 plate (70) 1.5 SEL - 2021my, as it has a two spoke steering wheel with silver/chrome thumbwheels.

On the AA settings page > + connect a car > Connect using wireless Android Auto - there is this statement 'Available on some 2021 model vehicles'.

I assume this statement comes from the car (it works fine with the usb cable), rather than from AA.

Does anyone have any further suggestions, please.

Regards

  • 1 month later...

Based on various comments to the effect that Android Auto (AA) could be connected wirelessly, I have tried to get mine working on a Karoq Edition/ MY2021 (delivered May 2021)/ Columbus MIB3.  My phone is a Moto G8 Power with Android 11 installed.  As I am having other problems with the Nav. System, my Skoda dealer has had the car in for investigation.  At the same time he has investigated the issue surrounding AA.  According to the dealer, the vehicle is not equipped for wireless AA.  The current specification for a Karoq Edition 1.5TSI 150PS DSG “Radio, Telephone and Navigation” is “Smartlink (wireless for Apple and wired for Android).  If someone knows something different, please advise.

On my 70 plate/2021my model - On the Infotainment screen / Menu / Smartlink / Info tab -  It states that AA can be connected via USB or Wirelessly.

I am beginning to think that this is a generic screen and does not apply to my vehicle.

Today I spent a good hour on Samsung's Chat facility to check if my phone is the cause of not being able to connect wirelessly.

I am waiting for a call from Samsung technical support where they will have remote access to my phone, to investigate further.

Recently my Skoda dealer said they would not investigate further until I could confirm that my phone is compatible with AA wirelessly.

However they did not say that my vehicle is not capable of AA wirelessly.

I contacted Skoda UK via their online chat facility this morning.

I gave them my VIN and was told that my vehicle is not compatible with AA wirelessly (only via USB cable).

When I pointed out that the Smartlink Information screen said it was compatible with both means, I was told that it is probably a generic screen for all the models.

Not what I wanted to hear but it saves me from chasing something that I can't achieve.

That was the reason for my post.  The various Karoq Forums suggest that numerous owners have been attempting to engage AA wirelessly when it appears that it is not possible to do so.  In my opinion, the introduction of  MIB3 (across many vehicles in the

VAG range) is an unmitigated disaster.

I'd have thought someone in the dealership would have a phone capable of connecting wirelessly to Android Auto. It's only take a few seconds to test if the headunit is working or not.

All Samsung phones running Android 10 or later are supposed to be able to run AA wireless. ( A few high end Samsung phones running earlier versions of Android would also work )

Who the hell am I to question Skoda - if they are saying your VIN indicates you don't have wireless AA then you don't have it, end of.  All I will say is that if you defo have an MIB3 system ( i.e. you don't have any SD Card slot in the glovebox and you have the newer USB-C type connectors rather than the older USB-A ), then that's the first I've heard of this. I'd have put money on you having wireless Android Auto if you have MIB3.

The biggest problem is the lack of information from Skoda. There are many owners ( and Skoda employees ) who just don't understand. Unless there's an inherent problem with the headunit, Karoq MIB3 systems should connect wirelessly to AA, MIB2 systems will not. There are plenty of examples in the various forums where people were trying to either connect an incompatible phone or they had a MIB2 headunit.

Agreed, MIB3 has it's problems but you can't blame the software for this one. I'd also recommend paying attention to those who actually own a Karoq ( or Kodiaq which is basically the same ) rather than someone who gets their info via google search or has a completely different headunit.

I'm new to Skoda, so can only comment on my limited experience of owning a Karoq for the past three weeks.

  • My car is a 71 plate Karoq (MY22).
  • I have a Samsung mobile phone running Android 11.
  • I installed Android Auto onto the phone.
  • Ticked the setting to allow wireless connection (Settings > System > Wireless connection)
  • The phone connects and Android Auto starts as soon as I get into the car.
  • I'm using Waze for all my navigation and it works flawlessly.

I haven't needed to do anything more than that.

Cheers

Huawei, were at odds with the Android folk and were told they could no longer run Android updates, has that issue been resolved?

Despite having sat nav. in the car I use Waze (as well as allowing the Lioness to navigate)

The attached document is located at the <Skoda.co.uk> website.  If one builds a Karoq Edition and downloads the 'technical information' relevant to the vehicle, the following is provided.  Page 3 of 8 states that Smartlink is 'wired for Android Auto'.  One of the contributors above states that they have connected their MY22 vehicle wirelessly using a Samsung phone (to a Columbus MIB3?).  Go fathom.

That's very interesting - perhaps there is still hope for me.

I have checked my phone and Wireless Connection is turned on.

I will try turning it off and back on again, while in the car, to see if it prompts the connection.

Thanks.

Good luck Toolie.

I forgot to say my infotainment screen is Amundsen.

I'm finding the 'English Kate (UK)' voice the best so far. And it includes street names, which is very useful.

This video gives a good overview of all the English Waze voices.

Kate, sounds just like my wife!!

Incidently my wife always argues with female voices on sat navs.

but I changed mine to a male voice and peace reigned 😉.

No joy turning Wireless Connection off and back on again, or following a procedure set out by ajrimmer, or confirming that my Hardware version is H22 ; Software 0270, as mentioned by gotomtom - both on another wireless AA post.

I am waiting for the Remote Support session from Samsung UK, plus any updates my dealer might perform.
