oops - looks like new spring /  exhaust needed and a bit of adjustment on the handbrake cable to take up some slack?

Not ideal but could've been much worse!

Aye pretty much. By the looks of it, it's finally going to need new rear drums and shoes too, those just aren't very good anyway. The bizarre tyre wear is definitely a tracking matter, the car is keen on ditches, so no surprise I'm having to pull it towards the road all the time now. :D

Not ideal but big bonus that there's no corrosion, Ryan

Aye, I would have just gotten rid of it if there was anything serious lurking. I'm going to properly see to the surface rust this year before it beds itself in properly. :)

Was just thinking about the cluster again - I remember a guy on here called tombirch95 who totally wrecked his cluster by trying to change the LEDs. Even the speedo would no longer work :giggle: So he bought a used cluster and wired standard type LEDs in to make it light up white :D

You know, that actually looks quite good, but really bright! :D

No corrosion, so it's justifiable to put this one right. :)

The WRN lives!! 👍😎

Don't they know, the rear exhaust has to have a hole in it? 🙄  Methinks they're getting lazy and too used to MOT'ing EV's rather than proper cars 😁

Not a bad fail, all told.  Bit o' DIY'ing to keep you entertained.

Aye I know, standards are slipping... :D

I'm just paying them to sort it out now, more costly in the long run, but less labour intensive given the weather, and I won't get billed for the retest. I'll sort out the advisories and the slight corrosion that's creeping in. :)

I know they're not the same cars, but Mrs (the pothole queen) Gaz's Polo GTI (45k miles) had to have a new NSF spring.  We only went for one spring instead of a pair.  I can't notice any difference, and although I've done axle pairs before on other cars, I wouldn't bother again.  As long as it's identical and the remaining spring isn't in a state that makes it stupid not to while you're at it.

Will you get two new front springs, Ryan, or just the one to save money?

Just the one for now. Trying to keep a bit aside for the new arrival/slow burner (shhhhh, if you know what it is!) :D

Got the wheels balanced as well as it ejected a balancing weight. Now the car has a year's ticket and I have a car, by extension. May the norm resume. /cdn-cgi/mirage/9e3daa4ed32c2d11d9adb91e26222aef4698414746198161477f3e696df8e5fa/1280/https://www.briskoda.net/forums/uploads/emoticons/emoticon-0100-smile.gif

Quite a bit, to be honest.

This was £255 in parts alone, and £240 for labour. I'm not complaining, all of that has really refreshed what felt like a tired car.

It's also going for tyres tomorrow (all round due to the funny wear) since I managed to get quite the discount from the local fitters for some all-season Falken things. :)

This one got new tyres on Saturday and has been running about nicely since. Since it was sunny for once, I went out with the DSLR and took some photos up at a bit I used to frequent to have a half hour escape from everything and just admire the scenery. :)

  • 1 month later...

It's been a month, what's happened?

This one has behaved fine. I have absolutely nothing to report, except that I changed the EVAP purge valve, and the car has provided stellar service as a mile munching dog carrying thing. :)

That is all.

It's been doing less mileage than usual, now that I'm not commuting as much, which is good. Gave it a wash though!

As seen in 'Chuckle In Your Day', I applied that Scotland sticker as a "professional" body repair to hide a stone chip! Kwality! :D
