Delivery Delays

Featured Replies

BMW have deleted touchscreen functionality from a lot of models due to the chip shortage and offered customers a $500 rebate.  A car these days without a touchscreen is unheard of, that would be deal breaker for me.

  • Mine that was ordered on 5 February has finally arrived. It was built in March but since then has been waiting for a part. I took delivery of it yesterday....Hooray!

  • got call from dealer, 280ps L&K arrived! ordered 2022. apr, haven't seen yet

  • i'd be more concerned that VAG / skoda might start sourcing inferior chips from china.  they'll be desperate to get cars moving to free up space and bring in the £££, so maybe  likely to buy from

I agree. Like not having the options I want , which happened with the last Superb I ordered, the salesperson ordered the wrong car , with the wrong options , I ended up with a car that I didn’t order.
Back to the present day , I spoke to the dealer yesterday and they’re now talking March / April, which will be 8 months , given other people’s experience on here I’m wondering if they even ordered the car back in July / August , as the car on the order form sent yesterday varies from the July /August order.  I shall speak to them tomorrow to clarify matters.

Agree with the above. £12.5 k offered for mine back at the start of May which was a reasonable offer at the time. New car being picked up 11 Oct so shopped around for a better price for mine. Best was £16.2 k from the Ford dealer I bought the car from. Skoda dealer couldn't match so ST going to the Ford dealer.

Good used cars are making excellent money and dealers seem desperate for stock.

Anyone frustrated with the delays should be aware that if they have a vehicle to sell or part ex the used car market is very much in your favour.  I declined an offer of £18.5K for mine in late May as the, now many, car buying sites were indicating £19.5 to £20K was possible.  I sold the car last week to a firm called Motor Dough for £23K after WBAC had done their usual chiselling down of an inflated online valuation, so I told them where to stick it.  MD were exceptionally quick, straightforward and easy to deal with with their telephone offer being what they paid before the car left my drive.  Cazoo also seem to be offering good money for used car too.

So whilst my delay with a different marque was frustrating, financially it was very beneficial costing me £4.5K less than if I'd accepted the part ex offer and £3K less than my best expectation in May.  Whilst the shortage of new vehicles lasts I can only see the used market being a sellers market with a premium on used cars in decent condition.  So, as they say, every cloud has a silver lining!

I took delivery of a new BMW 2 weeks ago, with a touchscreen, and have been setting it up and personalising it to my liking.  Guess how many times I've touched the screen.... 0, nil, nada!!  The idrive controller sitting near the gear shift is so much easier to use than a touch screen, particularly on the move, trying to hit small icons with your left fingers.  I would think anyone who knows/has used the system would gladly trouser the cash in exchange for a touchscreen that is probably used about as often as an ashtray on a motorbike.

It has the added benefit for those who like a clean car of when the screen is off it doesn't look like the marks and fingerprints would overwhelm the most experienced CSI!

Additionally, it has voice control that, whilst not perfect, is far more "real world" than not just Skoda, but the Volvo and Honda systems I've had in the past.

So, whilst I understand it sounds like a deal breaker, it wouldn't be for me.

Awaiting my Superb - allegedly built week 29 - but still on the 'delayed' list. Sat in some field 50 odd miles north east of Prague no doubt.

I was wondering / worrying, all these 'chips' that are holding the job up, how easy is access to 'em - I have a vision of my L&K sat in that field looking not dissimilar to the inside of my 1980's XR3i after it had been relieved of much dashboard kit by some shell suit clad scroat?

Further to my woe, as the weeks roll by I'm getting more and more nervous about the motor being patched back together, out of normal build sync, so to speak.

No car that I've ever owned over the years has faired well after it's been molested by the dealer for any kind of surgery - they never clip 'em back together correctly.

Be nice if the missing 'chips' all sat on the same circuit board just behind the glove box but perhaps that's hoping for too much?

I recently had Skoda fit a new part to the steering column on a Karoq - even that reasonably simple job had the usual tell-tale signs, the cover / cowling around the start button didn't mate up correctly, not a great deal of mis-match but enough for my eye to be drawn to it almost every time I got in............

Fingers crossed - at least it'll be 22 year registration - got to be worth a little more ££'s down the line than a 21 year reg?

might even be a 72 plate the way things are going, that'll be worth even more than a 22 reg  😀

look on the bright side though,  skoda are concentrating on finishing cars partially built , if your cars already built, it's likely gonna be with you shortly,

anyone ordering right now will be at the back of the Q and is in for a long wait 😂

I know it’s not Skoda but ordered a new van for work back in July; told today the order is highly likely to be cancelled Nissan Uk The dealer has had over 200 commercial vehicle orders cancelled since February 2021, with no offers of alternatives either.

Talking to the guy, he said things in the whole car industry are dire, many manufactures are struggling to supply much at all, he said Mercedes are reducing the specifications on all models to try and get some models out at a lower spec.

Told even if I cancelled the order on this particular van and re-ordered the new Citystar or whatever he said was replacing it; he couldn’t guarantee delivery and doesn’t expect anything  before May 2022.

Turkish made Transits haven’t been made since the beginning of summer either allegedly.

So if you are waiting on new vehicles, I wouldn’t be holding your breath.

maybe your order is likely to be cancelled because it's no longer in production ie  because of newer model,

i would think the last  thing manufacturers would do is cancel an order as it costs them £££,  there more likely to string you along, with false promises  until they finely  get round to delivering your order.

if your in no hurry best to hang in there,  as  cancelling  = the need to  look elsewhere and back to the end of the Q

@Berisford mine was partially built in may, sat for months then boarded a ship in late September.

I've had zero build quality issues. You don't know what chips were missing, but I reckon the second stage QC is enough to make sure it's screwed together properly when it finally leaves

Friend is in a situation where he needs a new corporate car and enquired for a new Octavia or Superb. Both have ~1 year of waiting time if ordered now. Completely unheard of just a year or two ago for a SKODA, now the new normal :)

Heard it’s currently 18months for delivery of a factory order Golf GTi 😜

prices are going up across the whole vag/skoda range from 1st december 2021,  it does'nt surprise me giving that everything else is going up in price

i reckon this will be the 1st of a few prices increases by skoda / vag

if you have to wait say 1 year plus for delivery, it's possible prices could increase 2 or 3 times while waiting

i wonder if they will honour the price signed for, if prices increase that much that there's no profit to be had on the car  😂

Superb prices been creeping up for a few years now. No longer the bargain new they once where.  If I was looking to buy new it would be very hard to overlook a one-year-old 5 series in favour of a new Superb. A few years ago we picked up a one-year-old Superb for £15,000, if we were to buy the same one year old car today it would cost £20,000+.

The market has gone crazy.

Our Superb Estate SE L iV arrived on our driveway on Friday. I think we must have got our order in before everything exploded too much but it was still a delay of a few months. Original delivery date was early September.

No evidence of having been left out in a field anywhere!

yes,  superb prices have increased over the last 2 years,  they went up a fair bit with the  facelift  but  the spec also got better.

discounts on new cars from brokers has also increased , which i suppose offsets the price increases along with the better equipment

bmw have been doing this sort of thing for years, ie £60k list price but no one is actually paying list as cars can be had for a lot less.

A lot of people would prefer a 1 year old 5 series to a new superb,  especially if the price was the same,  but bmw not for me, dont like the badge and the type of people who drive them  😀

plus 5 series no good for carrying anything as not a hatch,   i dont think you even get folding rear seats as standard, so most year old cars unlikely to have it, as cars are usually bought/leased by penpushers in suits who never carry anything other than a briefcase and phone  😃

Finally been given a provisional build week for my Superb Estate L&K iV, week 7 of 2022. Signed the order form end of August. Didn't even have a provisional date until now.

when you ordered the end august, how long did they quote you for delivery ?

i dont know how skoda orders work, but i've heard people talking about the factory accepting your order, which can be a long time after the day you sign and pay your deposit

i'm assuming that the factory accepts your order first then you get a provisional build date later or maybe you get a provisional build date  at the same time as they accept the order,

i dont really know how it all works as ordered through a broker and not heard a thing from either broker or dealer since ordering

They initially talked about an October slot and December delivery, but on my paperwork it stated delivery mid February delivery. No mention about production date.

The paperwork was done in August, but there was no date until last week. I'm sure that week is also fluid, especially in these times. So yeah, looks like the date was only set after the order was accepted by the factory, even though the order had been in the system for a while.

As kind of expected, had our brand new van which was ordered and deposit paid July 21, cancelled by Nissan uk today. It’s not being built at all, they are now starting to get ready for a replacement to the NV250, cancelled and deposit returned 😩

Totally stuffed, been waiting months to now have to start trying to find alternatives, bearing in mind anything out there is at least £2k more expensive now than it should be, as demand outstrips builds…..

I’m an electronic engineer working on consumer products, we just got a quote in and lead times for a new product and even the simplest of components on that circuit board has a 106 week lead time. Some are better (a mere 32 weeks) but you can only build when you have everything. We can source them more quickly but a $3 part is rapidly approaching $100 due to supply and demand. It’s crazy.
I suspect things might recover sooner than that, but it isn’t going to be “soon”. The supply chain is ruined.

It'll take a year to sort out I reckon.

We are being quoted 26 weeks for standard electronics parts, and 52 weeks for more specialist bits.

52 weeks being the maximum time their ordering system allows, so >52 weeks in reality.

Anyone recently taken delivery of a superb ?,

just been given a build week of 09, ordered  12th october 21, originally told 7 months, bog standard sportline hatch 2.0 tdi dsg

we shall see what happens

there seems to be some movement with other models getting delivered  ie octavia's  etc,   but not sure about superbs

only a  month or so ago,  superb buyers where getting quoted around 12 months for delivery, i wonder if that's still the case

Well 310golfr, you predicted my Superb would be a 22 reg and it looks as if you'll be proved right, not a peep from my dealer since 12 November when they pointed out the Superb '.....has a good few chips in it'!

just had a look back at previous posts, your car was build week 29 last year and your still waiting  😂  ffs what's going on

skoda supposed to be finishing cars that are sitting in fields waiting on parts when the factory starts back on 10th january

but even if your car gets finished mid january, it's still 4 /5 weeks to  it arrives in the uk, so might as well wait another week for a 22 plate  😄

At the end of October (ordered mid-July), I was told mine (Superb 2.0 L&K Hatch) would be with the dealer 18th February.

However... 2nd week December, that date was scrubbed by the dealer and no alternative date was given.  I've chased the broker (it's a lease car) this week and asked them to find out what's happening, but no answer as yet.

So I've gone from approx. 7 months, to no idea.
