How many have rejected or are in the process of rejecting?

New or old you still have rights with respect to being of satisfactory quality..  So I believe you’ll have 30 days to reject based upon your issues.  In particular the mph/kmh is a legal requirement.  After the 30 days you have 6 months but there is reduction based upon fair consideration of use, usually a pence per mile. That said, the 30 days is paused until such time as the issue is corrected. 
 

I was like you, paid cash but that made no difference to the situation and legal rights.

You are entitled to a refund minus usage (calculated at between 25-45p a mile). I had a 6 month old ex demo with 8,000 on the clock. Paid in cash. I got all but the 1000miles at 40p per mile back. Fought with the dealership to give me a full refund but they refused. They are within their rights to deduct under the consumer rights at. BUT, you needed to have written to them listing all the faults in the first 30 days.

40p per mile seems excessive as in my personal lease its like 9ppm if i go over the miles i stated. 

The depreciation is much higher when the vehicle is only a few months old, you are paying an extra 9p per mile on top of your monthly payments, if you divided them by the allowed mileage and added 9p I bet it would come to close to if not more than 40p per mile and your vehicle has already done most of its depreciating.

My advice is take everything said by Kate Laws with a pinch of salt.

 

She was supposed to be personally overseeing my case, heard nothing from her for weeks, until after me trying to contact her in numerous ways I got an email out of the blue saying Skoda UK have no responsibility or obligation for any of this, that my legal contract is with the dealership, and to deal with them.

 

In hindsight, my opinion is that me trying to go through Skoda UK initially actually delayed things by several weeks. When all was said and done, I went back to the dealership and insisted this be sorted out immediately, it was all over within 24hrs.

 

People are wasting their time with Skoda UK. Laws' is just trying to protect the brand, nobody AFAIK has reported actually completing a rejection 'thanks' to her. In the end, everyone just says the dealership took the car back.

It is, which is why I will NEVER but a car from Bristol Street Motors Skoda Derby ever again. Woeful. The manager just kept repeating that it wasn't his fault, it was Skoda UK's. Outrageous.

Absolutely spot on. I wasted ages thinking going through Skoda UK was the way to go. They don't help bar getting a hire car I my case. Waste of time.

That’s what I’d expect. We all buy our car from a Dealership so our contract is with them, not Skoda UK. Skoda UK want the cars fixed and sold; Dealerships will want (or ought to want) happy customers so they return, even if for a different brand of car.

 

Hi all , my car goes into the dealer for the 3rd time ( in my mind final time). I have a feeling like you all have experienced , the dealer will not have a scooby on how to fix. As my contract is with VWFS i dont know if i could be bothered to take this the full way to reject going on all of your experiences. So if i tell the dealer i reject the car , what will they say .. " Oh your contract is with VWFS and not us. Then i imagine its dealer vs finance tennis and likely to go on for some time. I have had the car now for 17 weeks and im close to 6 months.

If your car has a fault, dealer has one chance to rectify it, not multiple goes.  So unless this is a new different fault you can reject now because you notified them and they failed to remedy it.


When you say your contract is with VWFS, I presume you mean a lease (PCH where H is hire) or rental.  They are the owners of the car, if it is faulty you deal with them for refund/replacement etc.

 

 If you have a PCP (second P is purchase) then your contract is with supplying dealer.   No one else.  The finance companys only interest is loan being repaid (nothing related to maintaining or fixing the car).

 

You have no relationship with Skoda UK, they won’t process any refund so don’t waste your time asking them.   The dealers have their own commercial contract with Skoda UK, but it has no legal link to your contract with dealer (so an excuse like we are talking to Skoda UK is just a delaying excuse), how the dealer subsequently claims from Skoda UK is irrelevant to you and your refund shouldn’t be delayed.  If dealer doesn’t like way Skoda UK is behaving, not your problem, they need to use clauses in their commercial contract.

Sounds like you need to deal with leaseco (VWFS)


From what you are saying, the dealer was an introducer, therefore their involvement ended once yourself and LeaseCo had an agreement directly between yourselves.   
 

Therefore it’s VWFS problem to provide a fully functioning vehicle as per lease contract.   Don’t allow them to pretend they need to involve the introducer (dealer), any replacement could come from different dealer (and of course doesn’t have to be another Skoda)

Question for anyone who, like me, has completed their rejection, and who may still be hanging around here for some reason:

 

Has anyone seen their rejected car going up for sale again?

 

I ask out of pure curiosity, I'm certainly not about to embark on some crusade that will see me stood next to my car on the used-car forecourt with a t-shirt saying "DO NOT BUy THIS CAR!".

 

It is a month since my rejection completed, and fair enough it took a little while for the finance to clear with VWFS. That is done and VWFS have already declared that their financial interest in the vehicle has been removed. So, I had expected the car to be at least up on the local dealership's website easily by now, yet it is neither on the local website, nor the dealership's national website. I just double-checked and the car has not been taxed, so it is certainly unsold.

 

I don't for a moment imagine Skoda UK have taken the car and refunded the dealership, and having a pal who has been selling cars elsewhere almost 20 years, I also am not entertaining any notion that the car is just sat doing absolutely nothing at the dealership, either because they are nervous about selling it and/or are awaiting the magic-bullet software update from Skoda. I know what a 'churn' it is at dealerships and there is a bottom line to protect, and dealerships work on the basis of particular spaces in a forecourt having a daily/weekly £ value attached to it. So, for instance, if used car is situated at the very front of a forecourt at a certain price, they will only let it sit in that space for X days/weeks at that price before the vehicle is either moved further back from the front of the forecourt and/or they put its price down. They don't just sit there though.

 

So...I'm wondering what has happened to mine. Despite (or because of) what I have said above, I am actually wondering if they have put it into auction just to see the back of it, and it is up for sale somewhere else in the country right now.

 

I'm just a bit perplexed that the most corrupt sales-industry that exists does not appear to have (yet) sold on my massively faulty car to some other poor mug.

Yes, mine was up for sale a week or so after I rejected it and gave them the keys. It appears to have been sold within a couple of weeks. When I noticed it up for sale, I emailed the garage and cc'd Skoda UK / VWFS about it and pointed out that it would be illegal to sell it unless it had been fixed (kph/mph issue) and got a reply from the brand manager at the garage telling me "That is no longer your concern".

 

So, if anyone sees a silver Octavia SEL FE with matrix LEDs, Perseus wheels and the reg WJ70GJF, feel free to point them my way. They've bought a lemon.

I have not seen mine on sale. However, I still have not received the road tax on it. I emailed the manager at my dealership (Bristol Street Derby) who has not bothered t reply to me about it. No idea what has happened to it, but I pity the poor soul who eventually buys it!

I think we should start including the reg of rejected cars in these so that it can show up if the new owner puts it into google (or bing for those of us who've had the covid vaccine :) )

Delve deep into this forum, buddy. It's all here, tons of it.

 

I have asked more than once on the forum as to whether it has been established that there is a particular combination (i.e. model variant, engine size, radio type, software version, other factors) that can guarantee no problems (and I mean NO problems, not the odd niggle) and nobody has answered that question. On the basis of that, as well as my own experience, I can only strongly advise you to buy a different car.

Interesting....I got a cheque from DVLA within about two weeks of receiving my full refund when I rejected the car....which will have been at least several weeks after you completed your rejection.

 

The funny part is I'd already had a full refund, which included the first year's vehicle tax, so why DVLA then sent me a cheque as well I have no idea. It's spent already though, in case anyone tried asking for it back !!!

I am honestly in agreement with that, so long as I'm not going to end up with a letter from some lawyer landing on my doormat!

Moon White, SEL FE, matrix headlights. Will have done 9000 odd miles. Avoid it!

Hello David. Before you are put off buying a Mk 4 Octavia, see my thread entitled 'The good, the (not so) bad and definitely not ugly Octavia iV Estate'. Ours was bought on May 11th and there are just a few minor glitches. Skoda has issued a software update, which will be installed into ours on June 17th. I'll report on the same thread on what, if any, changes have occurred. All I will say here, so as not to repeat myself, is that it's the best car I've ever driven and because of our driving style (around town a lot, out on longer journeys weekly) I'm certain that we'll get over 700 miles on one tank of fuel, 40 litres.

I've just successfully rejected an Octavia iV lease car after a few weeks of 'owning' it.

It was delivered with plastic transport blocks still in the suspension and I couldn't get the infotainment screen to work properly or load a driver profile.

 

It also didn't run as well as my previous MkIII despite having the same engine. It just struggled on and off the throttle like the fuelling was all over the place.

Back to the dealers. They did three software updates one of which improved the engine mapping but it still wasn't quite as good as the MkIII.

When I went to drive back from the dealers the infotainment screen wouldn't do anything even after a reboot so they kept it in for another day.

 

The next day driving back the cruise control worked for about half the journey then it wouldn't select/engage. Back again, more software.

 

After all that the infotainment screen still froze on the loading driver profile screen at start up every couple of journeys.

 

All that in just 400 miles so I gave up and rejected the car.

 

I MUST point out that the supplying dealer which obvously didn't PDI the car properly and the dealer who was lumbered with task of sorting out the issues were two different dealers. I thought Skoda as a company was at fault for not writing the cars software properly not the second dealer tried to bend over backwards to sort it for me but at the end of the day can only install the software Skoda have written.

 

I now know that the SEAT Leon and Golf Mk8 also have similar issues so it would appear software is causing issues throughout most of the VAG group, not just Skoda.

Short update from me; My rejection has gone through, just waiting on the dealer to finalise things. VWFS have actually been very pro-active and pushed this for me, so in all of this, they're the good guys.
